So lower performance at a higher price. No thanks, i'll wait
For 99% of people you're right, the 5900 is better. 2950x is a Threadripper CPU meaning it has some features that help in specific use cases. Its a chip that lies between desktop chips and server chips, technically aimed at "workstations". Typically Threadripper mobos support way more ram. The cpu also has 64 PCIe lanes vs 24 lanes on a 5900 for those who need to add more expansion (multiple GPUs, multiple m.2 devices, etc)
I paid $500 for my 1950x and also have a 3950x, which I bought for $550. The 3950x is faster on paper but the 1950x is an overall smoother experience (I mostly do video editing), I think maybe because of the extra cache and I/O. Both systems run 32gb of 3200mhz/cas18 ram. Don't dismiss the older TRs, but I agree this is not a good price for something I personally would only buy used anyway (as I did with the two chips mentioned above).
Seriously? How is this front page when you can get a 5900X for $80 less? Ridiculous.
You send us all a link to an in stock 5900x that we 'can get for $80 less.' If you get us that link we will all give you a like! I'll wait, but seeing as thats not available, something that is in stock (2950x) but overpriced is sometimes better than a better product (5900x) which is permanently out of stock. We will likely be looking at buying a 6000 series cpu fully released before we can find a 5000 series in stock.

Edit: $70 less, not 80...

Let's not forget about quad channel memory on the TRs.
The sTR4 platform is all but dead at this point though. Options for a X399 mobo are already thin and getting worse by the day. If you really need a TR, do yourself a favor and get 3rd gen or newer.
People use TRs to do actual work. It's not for opening up 50 chrome tabs or gaining FPS on your broken copy of Cyberpunk.
They were in stock yesterday at AMD's site, but I'm not your personal shopper. You can find a link just as well as I can. As far as it being overpriced but better, well, if you feel like overpaying instead of doing a little browsing, feel free.
You said we can get it for $80 less and I asked you to send me a link where we could get it. I checked multiple times on AMD's website yesterday and it wasn't in stock there or newegg or best buy or amazon or bh. Millions of people been trying to buy these cpu's and we can't get them. Bots are too fast. Everyone knows the 5900x is not available anywhere. The 5800x has been in stock for brief moments but thats the overpriced cpu. Im not saying its your fault they're out of stock. But you said we can get it and I asked you to send the link and you couldn't produce. We're all waiting on the link of availability for the 5900x from you or amd but it's not available...it's been released for 3 months and it's not available on any retailer to be readily purchased

Just checked, it's available. What're you talking about?
Edit: Ok, that's the 5800X, but still, I've seen the 5900X here and there. Still doesn't change the fact that this is certainly not a slick deal.

I bought the 1920X for $200 2 years ago. So if your just buying this EOL platform, dont! Not until this CPU is under $300.
