It's just sad to see CPU prices going up for the same processor/performance as 2 years ago. Definitely not as bad as gpu prices, but I've been used to a downward trend since the 1980s.

I bought a new Ryzen 5 2600 in 2019 and paid $160. I also bought a new Sapphire RX 580 8GB Nitro for $210. Now that card is $800-1000 new A used card on ebay is around double what I paid new. At least the 2600 has proven to be a beast
And even with inflation electronics still typically deflate (i.e. price goes down for the same performance or price stays the same for better performance)... but that isn't happening now.

I think those days are unfortunately gone, at least for "in demand" PC parts.
People are willing to buy used and pay a lot more than they used to in previous decades. Theres a lot of a factors for this, but the past 3-4 years have been an eye opener.
I've personally been selling my 1-3 year old used hardware for next to full MSRP prices on Ebay and only losing like 10% of the overall cost after taxes... A GTX1070 is worth more used than it was brand new in 2017 due to ETH.. its insane.
On the business end, a typical strategy is to create "new" products to replace something the following year. So new SKU's with minor changes get a price jump to counter market adjustments. This will become more apparent in the next two years.
This kind of Stagnation allows companies like nvidia to keep 8GB as a standard spec for 3 generations of graphics cards.

Why buy zen 2 at this price point when you can get an Intel 11400 that is better in every way for the same/similar price.

I built my step-son a desktop for Christmas in 2019. I don't remember the details of the promotion any longer, but I scored this CPU from eBay brand new for $100. It seems like it was listed at $120, and somehow I got an extra $20 off.
I paired it with a used RX 480 I found (also on eBay) for around a hundred bucks, as I recall. Sheesh, the good old days.
