If it is so easy to make a better SSD at a lower price, why aren't others making them? No other manufacturers have even announced plans to. Some here have even mentioned that MS is subsidizing this so that there is at least an option out there.
MS isn't subsidizing anything... that person that wrote that was wrong. One of the reasons for the higher price is because the *opposite* is true - MS is *charging* Seagate for the licensing rights to make the drive. That's one of the reasons for the higher price - Seagate has to pay MS for the licensing rights.

The above said, for those that would like to read a real and professional review on this drive, please see this article by PC Mag:

Excellent
THE BOTTOM LINE

The Seagate Storage Expansion Card is an easy, if pricey, way to add 1TB of storage to your Xbox Series S or X, while nearly matching the internal SSD's fast performance.
MSRP $219.99
$218.88 at Amazon

So, doesn't sound like there are HUGE profit margins on this that some are mentioning, probably the reason that there are no other options currently.

I hate the pricing, but fair is fair in this market. Now, give it another 6 months to a year as Gen 4 1TB+ falls in price; if this is still at $180+ and most of the SSDs are in the $100 range, then we can complain about the obnoxious price difference.

As it is, it's really not that terrible.

I tend to think that both MS and Sony should have went with sata 3 ssd instead of NVMe. Wouldn't have been as fast but it would have been much cheaper.

Cause maybe they have a exclusivity deal. I know hard to think that one all the way through.

As for subsidizing them lol yeah right not at this price.

Thats from 9 months ago, prices changed a lot since then. Also saying this is a full on external is a bit of a stretch since its more of a hot swap drive that gets inserted directly into the xbox mobo instead of using a USB interface by the looks of the design. Then they add the XVA on top of it.

Hey you want to buy it go ahead, the rest of us will wait it out for when the price becomes fair. Luckily I still got plenty of storage on mine.

When you're dealing with proprietary systems, prices aren't always "fair." Personally, though, I don't think this is Seagate or MS really ripping you off at $200 for 1TB of high speed SSD storage. Btw, you can also criticize Apple's pricing strategy with memory... Apple has NEVER supported a micro SD memory slot like Samsung does (on some models). Yet, you want to bump your phone from 64gb to 256gb, Apple is going to charge you wayyyyy more than the cost of memory. If you want an Apple iPhone, though, there's just no way around this. I view this quite similarly. Also, the price on this 1TB card is unlikely to fall (very much) below $200 for at least the next 12 - 18 months. Chips are in short supply, Seriex X's are still tough to get, S series sold very well... so, there will be quite a bit of demand with few other options. Don't expect prices to retreat anytime soon.

That's the speed of the external seagate drive that this deal is for.

Internal Xbox is 2.4 GB/s raw, but 4GB/s compressed. Gotta compare both speeds.

The drive is priced accordingly for the speeds you're getting to hit the fast resume feature.
4GB/s compressed has nothing to do with the drive. The drive isn't doing compression.

This thing is junk tier ssd. Don't kid yourselves. It's not like Xbox really needs a fast ssd anyway. But overall, Sony system is truly revo, and it allows for MUCH faster SSDs to be put into the system.

Again, is there a gain from much faster ssds, NOT REALLY, why not, because these consoles have so much god damn ram, It's not really going to need a huge disc cache anyway.

Relative to this product, it's a money maker for Microsoft to nickle and dime us just like their controllers. Nothing more. It's really my own fault for buying consoles.

Got it from Newegg @ $187 a few weeks ago. Argue till your blue in the face about price but this drastically improves the gaming experience. You no longer need to juggle HD space or worry about what content is on what drive. That's big with all the freebie day one gamepass games dropping.

A lot of this drive bashing is Sony fans talking trash but they'll gobble them up at the same price when they finally get this storage option.
