$800 for a new Macbook air, probably won't last long. Seems the deal from last week for $100 off and next weeks student deal for $100 off are currently stacking.

Best Price for a macbook air, next best is $900 from the apple store with free airpods for education discount as well.

I really wish BB would sell the 16GB variants. 8GB is ok for most use cases, but anyone working with RAW photos will quickly wish they had more memory.
My 2015 MacBook air still works like a beast
Just hopped on this, thanks OP! Used my Chase offer for another 10% off on BestBuy stacks too.

They required a signature on mine.

Worse for me. They claimed they tried to deliver it (two people home all day)…didn't leave a note or try my phone. Then they cancelled it and said they would refund me. Got email and text.

Even worse, their system shows item is still waiting to be delivered so I haven't gotten my $500 in Reward points returned!

Many phone calls and still no resolution!

Grabbed an open-box excellent for $674 ($717 after tax). Getting her on Wednesday and then I'll get to retire my trusty 2015 MacBook Pro. Kinda nervous downgrading to 8gb of ram, but the M1 will run circles around the i5 of my 2015.

Came from 2014 15" MBP, the most impressive thing to me is speed, battery life, AND how cool to touch it is under load. It's just crazy how old MBP ran hot with fan on blast and the MBA is fanless and cool.

Highschooler that needs Mac book air? Unless he/she in an advance art design school, why would a high schooler need Mac air? How about a $200 Lenovo Chromebook? Just a though since I have a highschooler myself and he never needed anything more especially as it could easily disappear. To each his own though.

After trying the M1 Macbook Air for 10 days, it makes me question the Youtube tech review superstars that universally spoke of this as if it was the second coming. The battery life is the biggest con that is being sold by the Youtube tech review shills, with about ten Safari tabs open, 8 Chrome tabs open, nothing else but website surfing, lucky to get ten hours of battery life, never lasted more than one daily session. The screen brightness was around 30 percent and yet after 8 hours, most of the battery life was gone, and we are not talking about eight straight hours of web surfing, few hours, standby for an hour, etc.

It is true that it never got hot but there were slowdowns at various times with normal web surfing and playing some Youtube videos. The slowdown would render the trackpad dead, not able to move anything for a good ten seconds or more.

The speakers are not that great, granted my main computer is a mid 2015 15 Macbook Pro, the Air's speakers are not gonna compete but still, they sound too boomy or too much bass, you get used to it but still after ten days, something is lacking.

On a personal note, my mid 2015 Macbook Pro is back from the Apple repair center, $200 plus tax for a new battery, top case, keyboard, and trackpad, thank you Apple, I learned that I can't switch from the 15 Retina to the 13 Retina, the new 14 Retina which is rumored to debut in September might fit the bill, if not, when the 2015 dies, it will be on to the 16 Retina.

Also the magsafe connector, more ports, possible SD card slot arriving in September, if you are on the fence, you should wait.

We all know the Youtube tech reviewers are driven by views and not offending the companies that send them loaner devices but what happened with their testing of the M1 Macbook Air's battery, it appears they are flat out lying about the battery life, thus the M1 Macbook Air has been returned.

I have been running on m1 and 8gb pretty smoothly so far since last Friday. We are in the same shoes too. I sold my 2015 16gb 15" MacBook for this. I'm happy so far.

Only ten hours, while having multiple browsers open and videos playing in YouTube.

How horrible! Smilie

Suggest removing Chrome from the mix, as it's known to be bad on battery, and re-testing.

My x86 laptops can only dream of 10 hours under any conditions.

Did you read my post, it was in response to the massive battery gains that Youtube tech reviewers were claiming, and no testing is available, it has been returned, mid 2015 Macbook Pro is back, and with the same tabs open it is either matching or outlasting the M1's battery.

Also again did you read it, 8 hours and that was with one or two hours of stand by thrown into the mix, the way the battery was winding down, more like 6 hours.

x86, another classic that has nothing to do with my original post, it also destroys a Commodore 64.

This is a PSA for anyone thinking about moving from a Macbook Pro to this M1 Macbook Air, wait until September and the new Pro's, some of the posts here seem like paid shill posts, but if you must, borrow it from Best Buy for 13 days, you can determine if it fits your use case.

I get 10+ hours. If your experience is different, I suggest looking into why. If you don't want to think about why your experience might be so different from so many others, then that's on you.

There's a reason so many people experience long battery life; generally the reason is - people really do get long battery life.

Yes, I agree and my apologies to anyone if my post seemed as if it was some sort of definitive statement, you might do better with your use case, however 10 hours is not what the reviews or even Apple stated, Youtube reviewers were talking as if the needle did not move for hours, no matter what you were doing, you would get over 12 hours, lots of hyped talk.

And trust me, I did think about why, I did experiment with closing Chrome, didn't improve things much, I don't think what I was doing; some internet browsing, around 45 minutes of Youtube videos out of 6 hours of web surfing, I don't think that was excessive usage for the average Joe.

Again, your experience is not typical. https://www.tomsguide.com/news/ma...is-amazing states something else.

It's not just random reviewers. Tom's Guide (IMHO, a good review site) says 14+ hours.

https://www.techradar.com/reviews...air-m12020 says 11 hours.

Mark Ellis says 7-8 hours. With Lightroom in there. That's a case showing low times.

https://techcrunch.com/2020/11/17...-you-away/ - I like this review because (in the compile time and other benchmarks) you can clearly see that not only is the M1 *faster* than the Intel 2020 Macbooks, but it also uses less battery life while finishing jobs in almost 1/2 the time. In other words, per battery (percent of time remaining) it's about 4x as efficient.

Find your usage model and take your pick, but that's the range.

Got my MBA (open box excellent). I checked the serial number for coverage. It says:
Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Estimated Expiration Date: July 16, 2022.

Does this mean someone bought and registered the device on July 15th, and returned it?
Is there any action i should take, i.e. re-register the product under my name, etc?

Also, i see a cycle count of 8. Normal for a machine thats a month old?
