First time I've heard anyone wishing their tv or monitor was VA instead of IPS. IPS has better viewing angles and generally better quality.

I'm actually looking to just replace my (nice but old) Samsung 1080p tv which is 55" so I'd be happy either way haha.

Yep thats the best way! haha. I'm already at 65" so I need 75 to get a wow factor Frown

Tv game is cruel that way. You get used to whatever size you've got, and you can only go up. Anything smaller at another persons house is then disappointing as well. Yet, you get desensitized to whatever size you are at, so it loses that wow factor itself. And you can only be disappointed.

Plus at about 65 they get really hard for one person to move around EG for returns or repairs.

That said my 65 with dolby atmos sound bar is a pretty great and inexpensive ghetto home theatre, just find myself now wanting 75" :0

I believe it's a tradeoff, VA has much much MUCH better contrast than IPS. Which is a pretty gigantic deal. The reason everybody splurges over OLED is contrast. IPS IIRC is like 1000:1, VA's are 6 or 7,000:1.

Pretty much no major brand TV's that I know of are made using IPS anymore. LG had some IPS panel TV's and they were considered cheap low quality sets. Not sure if they do anymore.

I admit it is weird how for monitors IPS=good and for TV's=bad though. But typically in monitors you are comparing to horrendous TN panels.

You also look at monitors at very close range where the vignetting effect would be more noticeable with VA whereas it is less so with IPS with their slightly better viewing angles (while being inferior in every other way that matters with HT displays). I have IPS monitors too and when I try to watch a movie on them they have gray blacks and irregular edge lit bleed like... IPS computer monitors, lol. This is the absolute last thing you want for watching movies and shows. Great for bright spreadsheets tho!

Well shoot. I had my hopes pinned on this TV, but after reading the comments, I'm not so sure. I'm in the market for a budget 75" and I thought hisense was *the* one. Looks like the 75" sets aren't great due to being ips though. So, what is a comparably-priced line of tvs in this size that won't look crappy?

Is ULED, QLED or OLED better for an occasional work monitor? Probably not for active working but for presentations and google docs plus watching movies and some gaming.

What do folks here recommend for a bedroom office?

ULED and QLED are the same thing, just different terms used by the manufacturer. OLED has better picture quality, but probably isn't the best for monitor usage due to the change of static images (i.e. task bar) burn in. Probably a higher end LED would be great, though you'd be best off looking for something that's actually sold as a computer monitor.

Thanks for clearing that up. You're right, my experience was with monitor technology, not tv's. And in the monitor world, most people prefer IPS.

Unfortunately its IPS as confirmed by the Hisense rep for US, the Canada rep, and at Hisense USA (888) 935-8880. Both of their 75's are IPS... as many suspected when it came out that the U7G 75 was IPS. Major bummer. It sucks how some of the larger screens are totally different from the sizes that get reviewed.

I really wanted this to be VA but it's definitely IPS. Finally looked at one at BB and it was pretty easy to tell it wasn't VA. The salesman also pointed out the difference in how the panels react to pressure and the U6G had massive blotching compared to the minimum blotching of VA.
