I bought the newer version first, and mounted it in a game room that always has daylight or lights on when watching. The picture is amazing, and I had no idea it was IPS/ADS until I read all the online debates. So I shut off the lights and ran tests in the dark. In that environment, blacks are very dark on most YouTube test videos because of the local dimming, but dark real content (Expanse, Witcher, etc.) reveals that the blacks aren't inky, and the movie bars are visible.
We wanted another 75 for our movie room, which is almost always dark when we're watching TV, so I looked for, and found, and original VA version. That picture is also amazing, and has inky blacks when the lights are off, with movie bars that disappear.
(I also verified the panel types with pixel pictures.)
For most content, the difference in the blacks between the two isn't noticeable, especially during the day or with lights on. As expected, the original VA panel is better if viewing dark content from a dark room, and the newer IPS/ADS version has slightly better viewing angles.
I do have different backlight levels set: on the newer ADS version I have backlight at 12 (like Rtings.com), and on the original VA version I have backlight set to 37 (like CR), both with auto-dim enabled.
Settings on these TVs have to be tuned to get a great picture; the defaults aren't good. Rtings.com has good suggestions that work for both versions.
The 2 boxes they came in look identical. The only difference on the outside is the serial number sticker - no manufacture date or version info. The backs of the 2 TVs look completely different, but the boxes need to be opened to see them. There are pictures posted on Best Buy (reviews), along with details.
Nevertheless, for a 75" with local dimming, this is about the cheapest you will find.

There will be a 75" U8H this summer, $1500 though. The 65" will be $1250-1300, 55" around $1000.
Adds mini LED tech, more dimming zones for local dimming

That said, the U6G 75 inch in our bedroom is pretty stellar. The only real issue I have with it is that glare from sunlight is pretty apparent. We have a window with black out curtains on the wall opposite the TV. When the sun is bright, the glare from the sunlight peeking thru the small holes at the top of the curtain is a bit agitating.

Screen shot of offer attached in case it proves helpful to anyone. Doordash GC is as good as cash to me, so $699 for this TV is a total steal. Best TV under $1,000 and it just got even better!
Is that your nice way of calling them whiny girls

LOL
Which liberal controlled crime infested city do you live in?
I paid $600 for my 55" TV hanging outside at my swimming pool area, for all to see. It's hung there for years and no one has bothered it. I was looking at this one to replace it.
I wish that was my life. In my part of the world thieving trash humans don't only prey on the rich

I got a $100 refund as well. We'll… $99.40 refund. They processed the refund as an "item arrived damaged but customer chose to keep it". Double dipping on the $100 DoorDash gift card through Hisense to bring it down to $600. At this price I am tempted to buy 2!
