Might have to spend more on a motherboard and ddr5 ram though.
Look at cost of adoption and for many people who are already on the AM4 platform and don't have to buy a new motherboard.
I don't want or need a new Intel platform. I upgraded my AM4 build to 16 cores with no added cost or regrets. I can live with a 9% speed penalty. Finally, I enjoy rewarding AMD for injecting competition into a stagnant market.

Intel's 12th Gen Needs windows 11 to use all the cores properly, which is a useless pile of horrible anti-consumer ideas that Microsoft is shoving down our throats. Soon you won't even be able to Install Windows 11 without an internet connection and a Microsoft account. Screw Microsoft's latest BS and screw Intel for not supporting Windows 10.

All of AMD Ryzens so far work perfectly with Windows 10.

If you have waited this long, might as well wait till the end of the year. These will drop further when the new AMD CPUs are released. But if you are in "NEED" of one, I think the Newegg $550 is a better deal if it's still available. But then you'll have to deal with Newegg and that is another topic.

I just bought a case from Newegg that shit came in 3 days. I then ordered another part, and it came in 3 days. They got rid of FedUp (Ex) and use UPS now I guess. No complaints there. As far as RMA's and other issues, I never had a problem with them. What are problems people are facing with Newegg?

Well f me. I have a 2950x but apparently my motherboard standard was abandoned and they went back(?) to AM4??? I'd have to buy a whole new mobo, probably memory, and cpu cooling system just to upgrade.
AMD's naming convention is to blame here. The 3950x and 5950x are not really in the same class of CPU as the 2950x. The latter was designed with high-end professional workstations in mind, while the former occupy the high-end of the mainstream desktop market. The AM4 socket is older than the TR4, but was never abandoned. They were just intended for different use-cases/market segments. The fact that anyone would consider "upgrading" from a Threadripper 2950x to a Ryzen 9 5950x is a testament to how far AMD has come in the past few years. The good news is, you could sell your used 2950x + motherboard for more than what a new 5950x + motherboard would cost.

The 5950X was $540 just a few days ago.

I don't think this is a good deal.

AM4 is the best platform I've seen w/in the past 10-15 yrs of PC building w/ lateral CPU upgrade paths (depending on your motherboard of course Wink )...

Go see Gamers Nexus Newegg stuff from January to February. It's not a one off case either.

Also, I have always advised for years nobody buy a CPU from Newegg. They for a long time will not accept returns. They make you immediately deal with warranty for any reason. It's a computer part, not a missile system they're selling so the no returns part is BS.

Intel CPUs have security vulnerabilities baked in. The good news is, you don't have to pay extra for it, they give it to you for free w/ purchase!
