At this time.its best to wait for the new Ryzen 7 coming out. Probably won't be much more than this and it'll be much better performance.

That will be a long time, though, and will be like last time where it's hard to buy it quickly.

What sucks is I have a 5900x, still sealed, and wanted to sell it and switch the build to intel, but the price is going down so much I'd lose a ton selling my 5900x.

Why didn't you sell it when it was 450+ a few weeks back?

They probably were thinking of the Ryzen 7000 AM5 stuff.

Also the 5800x3d is better for gaming but not for productivity.

And upgrad to new motherboard and DDR5, I presume? Would that be a whole gen rebuild vs just a CPU update in the OP?

5800X3D review embargo just lifted, numerous reviewer posted their results online(TL;Dr performance very positive), better check before you buy if you value game performance most.

From the review, I am not that impressed with the 5800x3d. To make it short, if you build a completely new PC system get the 12700K or 12900K (1st choice), it is good for both production and gaming. If, you plan to upgrade from a Ryzen 1/2/3, and spend as little as possible get the 5800X3D for gaming.

The 5900X is good for productivity, it can also be awesome gaming but is still a little lacking behind 5800x3d and Intel 12700k/12900k.

It is all come down to $$$.

How low can it go? I returned the one I bought at $450 so that was a good thing.

All this going back and for seems kind of pointless to me. I saw a video where a guy took his 5950x and with PBO it matched, or even beat slightly the 12900K. Basically they were in the margin of error mostly with each other.

The 5800X3d is cool, but the "gains" in gaming aren't that impressive for most people. Ok, so you get 7% more frame rate at 1080p. Are there a lot of people who game at 1080P at all, and if they do will they care that one processor runs at 285 fps where the other runs at 277 fps on their 165hz monitor?

For 99% of people it will make little to no noticeable difference. For the people that need it they already are willing to upgrade to whatever is the latest fastest and they don't care about saving $30.

Coming from a 3700x here - this is tempting as hell. I've seen reviews where 5800x3D regarding productivity (Adobe) which I need. Seems like the 5900x is where I need to be looking and the price is looking pretty good.

So what should I do? Wait until price drops more? I don't think it'll drop a lot more since this is end of line for AM4 so people like me are looking to max out the slot. Sit tight on the 3700x and just take the bigger leap once AM5 is here?

This is perfect for me. I am going to upgrade my gaming machine with this 5900X and use my 3700X to build a NAS. I think I am going to go with TruNAS Scale. Then when I upgrade my gaming computer in the future, I can drop the 5900X into the NAS.
