Just a PSA, if you have a ShopMyExchange account, you can call in and they'll price match to Best Buy and do not charge sales tax. I just ordered this a few moments ago.
Wish I could do that but u had several reward certificates and gift cards that amounted to $1350 dollars.

Will the $400+ difference in price be worth the hardware refresh? M1 -> M2 was a really bad deal due to degraded performance that people discovered.
If it's the new 3nm process than I would say totally worth it.

You can use it on pretty much anything but gift cards.
any idea how long the approval takes? Or is it right away so I can use it directly for the purchase?

I forgot to add, it has to be at $800. Since he said he can get two for the price of one of this.
The closest thing out there right now is probably the Vivobook OLED at Costco for $800 and even that has a fair amount of plastic on it. And you'd still have to pay another $25 to add in a 8GB stick to make it 16GB.

I am not sure if you willfully or inadvertently ignored what I said but I did talk about sales tax.

There are over 19 000 (Nineteen Thousand) Cities in the United States. If even your point were sustainable for cities alone (it is not, more later), 38 out of 19 000 is 0.002 or two tenths of a percent. Since it's not restricted to just cities but really is localities at large, some of which include cities, others county-wide, the reality of what I says is even more precise for you to consider.
No need to be rude.

My quote said 38 states, not cities. The rest of your logic falls apart with that. Unless you believe only 1 city per state in each state collects sales tax?

Quote :
So what are you going to say for the other 18 960+ cities not covered?
See above. Frown

Quote :
Sales taxes comprise of general not specific revenue for local governments. General revenue does not go to funding infrastructure projects, they go to things like maintenance, venue and event funding, sheriff and DA funding, health and welfare funding and other things like optional funding, transportation funding or even things like city or county funds among various other items I didn't list.

Unless a sales tax specifically calls for (as in is set forth in legislation) it goes into general revenue funding for a locality. This is a critical distinction you should understand.

Please stop the myth of how things are funded at local, state and even federal levels. One of the most repeated lies in this country is how people think things are paid for by taxes when it's clear they have no idea at all; they repeat falsehoods they hear from others or simply misinterpret what they see online.
If you had a source to back up what you say (like I did...) your argument would come across so much better. Even better, if you said it nicely, it could shift from being rude to being really impressive!

Start with explaining this: There are very few cities that charge a sales tax on businesses operating within their limits.

(Pretty sure it was you) -- -this will be the second quote I've asked you to substantiate that. Aside from benchmarks on just drive speed, please list things that you can prove/show are slower. What's the issue, exactly? What will I as a user see?

I am debating between M1 Pro & M2 Air - evaluating extra $$ worth for M1 Pro - but did not want to lose that new media decoding engine as more 4k/8k content comes up over time. We spend once and hold onto the PC for several years.

So, more than encode, it is the high end, new decoding capabilities that is being touted by Apple here: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/20...abilities/.
The M1 Pro (Max, Ultra x2) already have the media engine for enc/dec. The difference isn't between M1 Pro and M2, but between plain M1 and M2. For those that export media 8 hours a day, like content creators, that is certainly an advantage.

For simple playback, I don't think any of this matters for most people.

Not gonna lie. This machine actually looks rather amazing. I might buy one just to use it for all my side EE projects.

No mention of amount of external monitors supported. Additional desktop space might not be relevant to many of us, but adding 2x curved 27's to each MacBook increased our shop's productivity by 15-20%.
Recently Got me the airM2 and set it up and only supports one ex monitor Frown. Explained to Apple and upgraded to MacBook Pro M1 basic for only $100 more. Same shit, One ex monitor only!!! Frown
This BB slick deal setup should do the job, but I'll make sure to verify in store this time. BtW: Apple is still charging $2Gs for this baby Frown

With the student discount, which is available to everyone, Apple is charging $1,850, and includes a $150 Apple gift card. So still more than everyone else, but not by $400.

True, they pretend that it's for students only, but really give it to everybody. I guess students are loved at least by POTUS.
My point was more about the ex monitors and Apple not communicating this clearly

The M1 supports 1 external monitor, the M1 Pro 2. If you aren't able to do that, call Apple and they will help you.

And there are SO MANY workarounds to this, DisplayLink being the main one. Grab a USBC dock with DL, add the driver to your Mac, and you're in business.

BTW, the amount of external screens supported is documented. Apple likely doesn't list it front and center in marketing materials, but it's all googleable.

Manager discretion. Most of the time they tell me the max they can do is 10% off, not a full PM. And given that, I'd rather buy from Costco anyway - an extra year just for buying there, and if I use their Visa card I get 2 MORE years on top of that, for a total of four years warranty against HW failure. Hard to beat that...
