Is this worth it for futureproofing? It seems like one of the best for the socket. I game at 1440p gsync. Right now have a 3600 and 2070 Super on a b550. Also a Reverb g2. Not planning on upgrading other parts anytime soon.

I have a Intel 7700K with a 3070. Should I upgrade to this CPU or a 5600?
5600X isn't worth it. Especially since you'll need a new motherboard and possibly memory depending on your setup.

5800x3d + motherboard + good ram you would have a much more notable difference.

I am running Ryzen 5 5600X but the jump from a 65 watt to this 105 watt...I think I will wait another year or two. The X3D is definitely on my buy list just can't justify the small performance increase at such a higher price today.

I have an X370 and 2700 currently. Was going to just sell it to brother and look into an AM5 build later this year or early next but it's also tempting to just drop this into it and squeeze out another 2 years or so. At that point my X370 (and even the ram I put into it) will be getting REALLY long in the teeth.

For gaming, it is the best for the socket that should ever be released, since 7000 and forward should all be on AM5 socket. The 5800x3d averages 50% better fps over the 3600 and upwards of double in some games. It's a crazy good chip. It's kind of apples and oranges but I'm definitely going to get one to replace the 1500X in a system of mine to extend the life of that PC for a long time.

the 570 series is the best for the AM4 chipset, especially if you get an extended layout. The 550 series is more budget-friendly. I run an mATX 550 series. Asrock B550M Steel Legend is my board. I didn't need anything more as its strictly a gaming pc for me.

This is the best gaming cpu for AM4 socket which is now moving to AM5. Also, not sure how DDR5 will impact performance of new GPUs.

If you're a gamer with a high end GPU and currently have an am4 board, you will not do better. It directly compares to the 12900k (possibly the ks) as far as gaming is concerned.

HOLD for now (4690k + 980ti from 2015 crew Flex ) but sure is tasty looking. Gonna have to see what D4 really needs as that's really the only thing that'll make me build a new rig at this point.

Anddddd it's out of stock. Had it in my cart.

Edit. nvm, seems to only have been for a few minutes, was able to snag it. canceling my order of a 5800x I had gotten for $100 less.

I am upgrading from a 1600 I got at launch. The 5800x3d will give the most longetivy to my system. The next component to replace is my GTX1080ti in due time once the 40 series come out.

This CPU is a very very good drop in upgrade for AM4. For a new gaming only build I'd wait for Zen4X3D. If you do get this CPU, don't waste your money on ram past 3800mhz and use pbo2tuner to undervolt by -15 up to -30. PBO undervolt can drop temps as much as 15C and this chip will always full turbo to 4450mhz all core. With this CPU, I'm not worried about any CPU upgrades until games actually use more than 8 cores and wouldn't upgrade to anything other than another 3D chip, especially with terrible ddr5 latencies.

Sold out by Newegg direct but now even cheaper through 3rd party....is here any issue to using this Zip payment? Never heard of it, looks like micro financing.

Edit: nevermind, sold out again while I was changing ship info
