14TB - $200 a couple days ago ($14.29/TB)
18TB - $280 = $80 for 4TB more ($15.56/TB) or 40% more $ than the 14TB for 29% more storage

Just a heads up to people purchasing this to shuck, my 18TB drive was a white label WD180EDGZ that required the 3.3v pin trick to be detected by BIOS. YMMV though on what internal drive is used.

why are these external usb HDD more expensive than a regular 3.5" internal drive?
if you think about it extrernal USB is more material to make. the SATA to USB convert electronics, enclosure, usb cable, larger packing etc..

price he standard 3.5" drive lower and people won't be shucking it..

There is more demand for external HDDs than internal. Desktop users are mostly on nvme or sata ssds. Biggest marker left for internal drives are servers.

External drives have demand from laptop users, tablet users, game consoles and more. More externals are manufactured which is why we see lower prices compared to internal and why it's cost effective to shuck them.

I wouldn't hesitate putting them all on one drive, but I would only do so if they were backed up to an online service like Back Blaze. You can backup your external drives, but they have to be plugged into your computer pretty much all the time. If you unhook your drive for more than 30 days Back Blaze will get rid of the external drive on their end. Redundancy is key in any backup plan. Also, if you end up backing up your data to an online service make sure your ISP doesn't have a data cap per month. You could get hit with a big bill if you end up backing up several TBs to a service. I use to have comcast and they had a data cap, but had like 2 complimentary months if you exceed it. Hope that helps!

I always stuck to smaller drives, in multiples, to be safe. I use the 18TBs but only for stuff I either won't care if I lose it, or have backed up elsewhere

If I were in this case, I would upload the 2TB to a cloud based solution, then buy another 5-8tb drive and clone your existing one and keep one of those two physical drives off site.

I'm addicted to Seagate Exos 16 Drives. 7200rpm enterprise grade.

Can be had for $170 off Ebay.

Factory recertified, have bought 3 now. None of them had any power-on hours. or power cycles.

Easily faster then this drive, albeit a bit warmer because of the faster spindle speed.

Built my NAS for cheap.

This is what I am looking for. Which seller are you getting them from? It's hard to track down a seller who lists power on hours.
