Finally cracked $300.

HOLD THE LIME, people! prices should be coming down in the next 3 months. Great time to start updating in mid to late summer!

I'm on the fence about replacing my 3900x with this vs waiting a couple of years and getting a newer cpu+mobo+DDR5. This is a great deal, but I'm thinking I'll do the latter.

Coming from a 1600x with 32mb DDR4 3600 and a 2080. I feel the CPU is my bottleneck, and this is a huge upgrade. Is this the best ever AM4, or am I OK just going with a 5700x at $180? I work from home and run dual 4k monitors with 60 chrome tabs open and another 20 in Edge along with Outlook and Teams. I mostly game WoW, BG3, or stream PS+ games. I got the cash to move to AM5, but it'd be twice as much with RAM and mobo to grab a 7700. Is that even worth it?

You're obviously going to see better performance (especially 1% lows even at higher resolution) with the 3D chip but going from a 1600 to a 5700X is already going to be a night and day difference even at 4K. The 5700X has gone for like 150 before.

In 4-5 years you can upgrade to AM6.

I agree with @youra unless you plan to swap the 2080. I just did the upgrade from 1600 to 5700x with a 3070 and the parts are well matched for each other, usually taking turns being the "bottleneck" in games. It's a big leap in speed all around and I'm really happy with the work and gaming performance of 5700x + 3070. In about 4-5 years I'll probably do a full new build.

A game like WoW is going to be more CPU bound, so you definitely would see even bigger improvements with 5800x3d. The 5700x is a great chip though, and unless you got a 144hz/240hz monitor and need maximum frames, the 5700x should be sufficient.

Got this for $300 during black Friday it seems to be holding on strong. It's a pretty sought after cpu definitely go for it especially if you have a beefy gpu

If I run Warzone with this CPU and try and have live sports on my other monitor, the video stream lags really bad. It's incredible for gaming performance but the multitasking isn't good. For context, the previous 3700x I had would do it flawlessly but it left a lot to be desired for gaming
