Open box excellent for $650!? That's insane! Which color is it?
Don't expect them to be in excellent condition upon arrival but at that price I'd probably keep them regardless. Unless they're destroyed. Fingers crossed for you. I wasn't so lucky but this price drop doesn't make my purchase so slick anymore. They also still come with the Kef 5 year warranty.
I got in on the deal a couple weeks back for R3 and R2C, Best Buy wouldn't price adjust against themselves because they were clearance items. Guess I will have to return and re-purchase then. The R2C in walnut just went OOS....may have to switch to white now.
Thanks for the tip on open box. Often forget that option with BB. So I looked and found that a nearby BB has R3 open box for around $650. Says they're in OK condition. Hmmmm. I pulled the trigger and will check them out. If they are in acceptable condition, I'll save the money and return the fresh R3s.
I currently am running Klipsch KF-28 which I purchased probably a decade or so ago.
I've always seen KEF deals come and go and see a lot of hype for them.
On a scale of 1-10, how blown away am I going to be if I upgrade from my Klipsch setup to the KEF R7?
I am expecting answers of 11 or more of course, but appreciate any real feedback.
I may just go ahead and drive to my local Best Buy in hopes that they have some out to listen to.
I have LS50's (original) and they're great. I mostly listen at low levels, but I do turn it up a bit now and then and that's when the 50's disappoint.
I'm expecting the R3's to fix that.
I had a pair of KEF Reference One's for many years and should never have sold them.
Based on what? They have speakers are many price points, including a model that's regularly on sale for under $500
Yeah, agreed. The sale price for the KEF Q150 (Pair) is $299 which is highly affordable, especially given the performance at that price point. No way to claim KEF is expensive when they have both budget and more expensive reference lines available to cover a wide swath of potential customers.

[edit] Ok, so maybe actually sold out haha?
Not sure about 'blown away'. Usually that isn't the sound of KEF products. They usually have a fairly 'buttoned up' type of sound. The "R' line is very neutral without a lot of 'added excitement'. If you value very insightful and more analytical sound with a very pristine presentation the the R line is for you.

If you've been happy with the Klipsch sound, that might just be the kind of sound you like and KEF will bore you.
But KEF is one of the best all around brands of speakers. And the R7 is offers a lot of performance for the price.

yes it was open box. sorry, forgot to write that in first sentence. that's the reason I mention that first set open box was in pretty bad condition.
