8gb soldered to the motherboard, 4gb of typical laptop ram that you could upgrade.

Is this a good deal? I rarely see these specs for a new laptop under $500 recently but I'm not that up to date on the current gen cpus and Gpus

I think the BestBuy listing is wrong about that. Asus lists the resolution as 1920x1200 (WUXGA):
