No reason to buy at this price especially when the 7840HS with QHD display was just $50 more 2 days ago.

Sorry, I asked this in the wrong thread. I thought this was the 14" Legion Slim.
Yes, tried the last two recent versions directly downloaded from the support site. Same result! Not trying to hijack this thread. If this is a widespread issue, then it is not much of a deal.
Mine is M3CN34WW from June. Lenovo Vantage recommends M3CN38WW from September. There is also a ...39WW from November. The new ones address quite a few CVEs so I think it is probably worth to upgrade. BTW, how big is your EFI partition? Mine is 100MB.
EDIT: I just updated my BIOS to M3CN39WW successfully. Still curious about what is going on with your laptop.
EDIT2: Downloaded a partition tool and was able to see my EFI partition size. It looks like it is 260 MB. So yeah if you only had 100 MB, that might be too small which is what caused your BIOS upgrade problem.

Search for "disk management" from start menu, choose "Create and format hard disk partitions " you will see the partitions in the tool.
