Backlit keyboards should be standard - Agreed.

In this particular case, no backlit keyboard DOES NOT kill the deal (IMO).

I believe there is 8GB soldered on, and a 4GB SODIMM in the socket. Take out the 4GB and put in an 8GB for 16GB total, where all 16GB runs at the same speed. Add a larger SODIMM and then the 8GB on system board pairs with the first 8GB on the SODIMM for quad channel mode. Anything over 16GB will be dual channel.

To be honest, you'll never know the difference. This isn't exactly a workstation-class laptop.

Just for home. And 8gb is cheap. Thank you. 1 more question. Should I buy Crucial ram?

Does ASUS have Battery Health utility enabled? That utility allows you to set the charge limiting to no more than say 80%, so you can extend the usable life of the battery? You access it through the MyASUS app, under "Customization". If "Customization" doesn't show up in the menu on the left in MyASUS, it means the bios doesn't have it.

It seems not every ASUS laptop has this capablity

Any insight would be appreciated from those who have this and can check the MyASUS app

Will this deal be worth returning this refurbed Acer just to have the piece of mind of buying new?

It's was $318 excluding taxes. Other than the Acer having a touchscreen the specs seem comparable.

Briefly looking at that Acer, a couple of specs it has that the ASUS does not is an Ethernet port and it looks like the USB-C port is capable of charging the laptop (I see a lightning bolt next to it). This ASUS has a pretty decent Ryzen chip versus the very low performance i5 "U-series" CPU in the Acer, but the Acer probably has better battery life because of it. The screen on the Asus is 1920x1200 vs 1920x1080 on the Acer.

I'd say your Acer is a pretty good deal if it came with low usage. Get and run HWINFO64 and see how many hours are on the SSD and charge cycles on the battery. That will help make a decision.
