I've also had issues with a sony tv and Samsung (currently) point is. Any tv could be problematic

Which series was that?

Having had numerous TCL TVs I would absolutely stay away from the 4 series, the 5 series would be the lowest model I'd ever consider.

Two different 4 series developed awful dead spots, all of the 6 series TVs I've ever had work just fine.

Because an OLED this size is twice the price, less bright, and isn't good for my family's viewing habits since we had burn-in on an OLED in the past.

85" is a lot bigger than the 77" oled that is near this price range.

83" oled is the fair comparison and cost twice as much. Twice as much is not worth it to most, mini-led displays are very good.

I certainly think the Quantum dot technology makes a difference, even on the OLED's
Look at what Samsung did with their QD-OLED 2 years ago and now it is the standard bearer of the best technology there is at this time.
Color saturation, brightness along with WOLED always had in the capability of black levels and viewing angle.
I think we're getting there more and more every year. Some MiniLEDs are approaching OLED, but still flawed in processing. We're probably already terms of the number of local dimming zones, but there might be some issues w/ the way we're handling lit zones. Its why TCL & Hisense have displays w/ like 40K+ local dimming zones but still exhibit more blooming than like a Sony x95L w/ only 1000 zones. I think Sony understands how to control its local dimming better than anyone else, but they dont have the need to move into these crazy high zone counts yet due to processing limitations. MicroLED def will solve even more issues but its great that we have MiniLEDs this capable already at affordable prices.

Until MicroLED becomes a thing, Sony's flagship this year, which is a mini led, is gonna be as close as we ever get to OLED performance, with a non OLED TV. But like all their other flagship TV's, it's definitely not gonna be affordable!

I'll ride out my shitty Vizio for another 5 years. Hopefully the New York Jets don't win the Super Bowl during that time. If it does, I'll call up Vizio and complain about how their terrible OS tcp/ip stack causes content to stop buffering when my wife uses the microwave.

From a person who has two MiniLed's and two OLEDs( Non QD) in their home..I can tell you that one of the first things I notice is the difference in black level going from one technology to the other
The off angle color and brightness change is also noticeable, especially in the Hisense U8. The Samsung QN90a is a bit better in that regard, but not OLED level by any stretch

As long as QD-OLED prices keep dropping then there is a market. People seem to love the Samsung S89C 77" for $1799 and the Sony A95L is typically known as the best set on the market right now

The Sony A95L QD-OLED is widely regarded as the best there is on the market right now.

This is a really good deal. I'm still considering the Samsung QN90C 85 inch at Costco for 2399 but this seems very similar and it's 600 bucks cheaper. I'm not sure which one to get.

Actually... it's $700 difference, but remember that at Costco the QN90C includes a 5 yr warranty. If going the QM8 route and concerned about longevity, keep in mind that a 5 yr warranty at BB is $495, a 4 year warranty (Asurion) at Amazon is $183, and a 4 yr warranty directly with Allstate/Squaretrade is $230.
