For reference, here's a new laptop with almost the exact same configuration (it has an Intel i5-13500HX CPU instead of the Ryzen 5 7640HS) for $899.63 at Newegg.

Nice price and specs other than the monitor. 45% NTSC will have terrible color accuracy. It might not be a huge issue if that's the only monitor you look at, but please don't use the monitor for photo or video editing. If you need to do that, use an external monitor. It's sad that Lenovo will mar an otherwise decent computer with such a shoddy screen.

Almost certainly 2x8. Doubtful they would set up a gaming laptop in x1 config.

If I remember correctly, that is exactly how the Lenovo gaming laptop I bought last year came. It had 2 slots for RAM but I'm thinking that only 1 was occupied. I know I took what was in and replaced it with a couple 16s.

Purchased open box from Bestbuy. For anyone that may be wondering, my purchase looked brand new with everything that it should have had included.

From the Q&A on BB site

I wouldn't put much stock into that but rather double check elsewhere to confirm. Several specs were incorrect on the Lenovo I bought and I wouldn't have knew otherwise if not for users here that knew better. I can't remember the exact details but I remember the max RAM listed as either 16 or 32gb (it wasn't, it was 64gbs) and something incorrect about the generation of SSD supported as well. I later figured out the confusion comes from the handful of variants Lenovo releases whilst not changing the model numbers. Sounds too stupid to be true but it's real 😆

I'd encourage anyone wanting confirmation on the specs to check several different places and read into the comments/Q&A. As crazy as the above sounds, it's real.

For open box items from best buy, are the prices negotiable if you were to buy it instore or are the prices pretty much firm?

Depends on the manager. I watched a guy recently in our Best Buy haggle on the price of some open box items. They were willing to come down but then he got unreasonable when they wouldn't come down to what he wanted, which I think was around 50% off. It ended when he tried to tell the manager the salesperson had been rude to him and yelled at him. I thought I was going to have to jump in but the manager was smart and realized what the guy was trying to do. He asked him to leave the store and of course then the guy starts insulting the manager and saying he is calling corporate.

Seems like a good deal. Would this be good for light gaming?

Yeah this might be powerful enough to play a YouTube video or two 😉

Yeah this would be solid for gaming. The only downside is only 8gb of memory in the graphics card. I'd also bump it up to 32gb of ram if their is a free slot.

Are you looking for 4090 in less than $800

I know besides someone mentioning the screen isn't great, would this computer be ok for light Photoshop/Illustrator duty? I was thinking about grabbing something like a refurbed Acer Predator (i5) but this seems like it might have a slightly better GPU and if I do some work portable as i understand it the Ryzen CPUs are better on battery than the Intel

I'm more concerned about the 45% NTSC panel than I am the 8GB vRAM.

I am new to all of this. What kind of panel should I be looking for and how much more would that cost for a similar setup with the better panel?
