This M12 Fuel drill and impact driver combo is a compact, capable home DIY set that stands out for its smaller size, good ergonomics, and strong battery platform value. The newer generation is described as snappier with more power, and the tools are said to handle most jobs, especially quick tasks and tighter spaces. The main tradeoff is that 12 volt tools still lag larger 18 volt and 20 volt options on raw power, and the drill can feel slow on harder materials. A solid fit if compactness and interchangeability matter most.

  • The M12 Fuel combo can be a compact yet capable option for home DIY tasks.

  • The battery platform supports interchangeability, which helps value when using multiple M12 tools.

  • The kit can work well for quick tasks where smaller form factor improves access in tight spaces.

  • The deal can be successful when the receipt shows separate per-item pricing for the hack.

  • The impact driver can feel heavy for a power screwdriver, which may limit frequent use.

  • The hammer drill can be slower than wired options, making it less suitable for harder materials.

  • The 12V platform may feel too weak and not meaningfully smaller than modern 20V tools.

  • The deal may not work correctly if the receipt does not show separate per-item pricing.

Any reason to get this over the Ridgid subcompact brushless 18V set? The Ridgid drill is lighter (2.0 vs 2.6 lbs) and has more torque (500 vs 400 lb-ft). Same thing on the impact driver (1.72 vs 2 lbs, 1850 vs 1500 lb-ft). The M12 drill has the hammer function...other than that, any reason to consider Milwaukee's M12 fuel line over Ridgid's 18V subcompact line?

Milwaukee 3404 is 2.6lbs with battery. The Ridgid R8701 is 3.0lbs with battery. You need to attach a battery to these things in order to make them run. I didn't bother to do a weight comparison of the two impact drivers, but my guess would be similar results with batteries attached to tools. Also something to consider is physical form factor (front to back measurement and height). Milwaukee wins this race, especially with the impact driver. 12V tools are lighter and their smaller form factor allows them to work in tighter spaces when you use the tools with the battery that is necessary for operation. You can't get the full understanding of this if you go to Home Depot and look at their display models and heft them for weight because they leave the batteries uninstalled on the display model usually, for loss prevention purposes.
