I'm glad to see all the comments in here hating on the Touch Bar. I "missed out" on that feature in my 2014 MBP, so I've never had a chance to try it out. It just looked cool. But the hatred for Touch Bar here tells me I didn't actually miss out at all!

Must have 16GB. Ended up getting one from Adorama with no tax and a discount code from Apple Insiders or somewhere.
I kept telling this to some people, what do I need to be more future-proof, they recommended the 512GB SDD instead of the 16GB RAM, in case I'm forced to make a choice.

As a windows user I fail to determine the right course. I'm thinking both to be safe Smilie .. Can't wait for Q3, need one now for work.

If you still think that "8GB is plenty", there is something you should know about these Macs: Disk swapping can seriously shorten the lifespan of your SSD and the SSD is not-replaceable. (Disk Swapping = When you run out of actual memory and the computer writes unused memory to disk so that it can free up memory to run other programs and then read it back off of disk when the information is needed.)

Many new Mac Mini users are already discovering that their 8 GB Minis are are frequently or constantly swapping memory to disk, resulting in terabytes being written to the disk per week, even though they aren't saving much actual data. (All disk swapping) At that rate, some drives could easily render the entire device inoperable within less 5 years. (Potentially FAR less, if memory usage continues to increase for web browsing and common apps). And do you think you'll be willing to spend hundreds to repair it when it fails instead of of buy something 2-3x as fast for a little more? No. So you chuck your laptop or sell it for parts on eBay and the cycle of landfill continues.

Soldered RAM sucks, but soldered SSDs are a disastrously bad idea. Apple does this to force you to pay ridiculous premiums for otherwise inexpensive upgrades and to ensure that you replace the devices more quickly (aka planned obsolescence).

For those looking for more information, check out this video and the links to users having these problems in the description: https://youtu.be/u7LOljirF6g?t=281 (The rest of the video is pretty funny, talking about some of the odd behavior with 3rd party USB-C docks causing new MacBooks to brick.)

tl;dr: Caveat Emptor. Don't expect this to last.
Excellent insight. Eventually, are you suggesting that we don't buy or we buy but with 16GB RAM and maybe 512GB SSD xD?

When are folks receiving their shipment? Says mine is estimated for early May, but I'm seeing the current page for it has items in stock in mid-April.

That is all true, but would it affect the average user? The 99%? I understand that it would affect people editing 4K or have 100 tabs open. But for the average user? It's not going to matter.
Would it ? My wife is the definition of "average user": not technological savvy, use the computer about 2 hours a day (not in one sitting). The rest of the day the machine rest idle. No video editing. Only Chrome and Safari and Excel.
After 2 months 1 week of owning the machine, do you know how much was written into the SSD ? 35TB !!, and around the same was read from the SSD (36TB or something).
IF my wife is not 99% of users, idk who is. She basically use nothing else but web browsing and very light and basic Excel work, for not even half a work day per day.
So for the average user, it may very well matter when the machine die before it should die, just like how the butterfly keyboard failed.
Check your SSD stats guys.
Something is wrong here. It's not the first time Apple mess up. They're not infallible.

Who are these average users that use 1-2TB of write to their SSD a day? I mean just by browsing the web and doing some productivity work doesn't even chew threw 20-30 GB of data a day. No way these guys are "average". They must be rendering or doing something crazy. It just makes no sense.
then you don't know what you're talking about. My wife only use Excel and Chrome for web browsing (online shopping, she does open a lot of tab but nothign too crazy !), and Some Safari. Period. Nothing else. For about 2 hours a day. And her Mac has written 35TB after 2 months and 1 week !
Yes it make no sense only if you think Apple isn't fallible or if you think you know everything in the world.

Question for the folks who use Excel on a Mac. How is it? Appreciate some feedback on this.
