Also, there is no way to cancel without contacting customer service. Anticipating a $4-$5 charge for a service I barely used, I called to cancel well in advance of the end of the 2nd month expecting a reduced charge. As it was, it seemed I was still expected to pay the full amount that would be due, however I pointed out I was cancelling early and that I should be prorated, and the CS rep took care of it (I think by just giving me another $5 credit).
When calling CS, there was no automated system to hold: it just rang a dozen times, and then someone picked up. Quite strange. There is online chat, but when I tried that it was taking way too long to speak to an agent so I abandoned it.
In short, if you do this deal, I would only attempt to get 1 month of service from it using the free credit and be prepared to call to cancel before the 2nd month begins.

Unless you really want Ting service, I would say skip this deal to avoid the grief. Ting would still bill you even after you port out.
I have 3 SIM cards from the previous deal that I won't even bother to activate.

Not really a Ting defender here, but ...
They advertise themselves as "postpaid", so you can have accrued charges before you port out that come due at the end of your billing period (similar to other postpaid services).

Did you buy only one card?
