Agreed with the post above.

Note that this is a slightly simplified version of the original Gloomhaven but you won't loose much in gameplay and it's quite excellent.

It's kinda like a video game, in that you learn the rules as you play the first few scenarios and then you'll be well-primed for the OG Gloomhaven.

There are apps to help keep track of points and items and whatnot but I recommend holding off on that until you get the hang of it and THEN decide if you wanna use the app. I've decided not to use it, as part of the game is the sheer vastness of all of the items.

We find the Melodice soundtrack made for this to be awesome to play with. It really helps to get into the game.

If you have someone to play with consistently, you really can't beat this deal. It's EASILY the best game we've ever played.

How is this with two players? And what does this play best at?

I can't answer the best amount of players but this plays very well with two players. The standard duo that work well together are the Demolitionist and Hatchet characters.

Thanks for the soundtrack recommendation!

What's the replayability for the game? Like if I played with my wife, could we play again with our normal tabletop group once we get back together?

This is a ridiculously good price for the huge amount of gameplay you get from this large box.
It's a stellar single player game too for those like me who don't have friends who want to dive into a game like this.

You can easily have them join your current campaign or just start a new one.

Some event cards say to discard them once read but it shouldn't matter much if you shuffle them back in or just keep going from where you left off. They are a pretty minor part of the game. Usually just some gold or fame/infamy and the like.

2,3,4 all play great. Or even one if you play two characters. BGG says recommended at all counts with 2 being slightly in the lead for best, but it is really mosty about the playtime taking longer per additional player. It has setup for every map for 2,3,4 so the monsters are balanced to the player count.

There aren't any "ripping up cards" in this version so you could replay it as many times as you want. There are some branching paths in the story but they all basically bring you back to the same place. You could play again with a new group and take the other path on your second playthrough to get a slightly different experience.

The biggest difference will probably be the higher difficulty due to having more characters. And you'll probably want to choose a different character from who you played the first time.

I have a solo campaign going on and a campaign with my brother using different characters. They've been pretty distinct experiences so far in terms of strategy. The campaign with my bro has been sort of difficult since our roles (Red Guard and Hatchet) don't really mesh well. On solo, I'm using the Demolitionist and Voidwarden and it's been relatively easier since I have a sort of paladin and a sort of healer to balance things out.

Playing this came with my kids 11-17. They love it! The scenarios can be a little bit long at first, but as you get to know the rules and your decks better, it speeds up. The "Learn to Play" guide is VERY well-done... it introduces the concepts very gradually, and over five scenarios teaches you everything you need to know to play an incredibly rich game. At this price it's a no-brainer.

I recommend playing with all 4 characters, btw... it's cool to see how they interact with each other.

Just paid $50 for this at Target on Saturday, well worth that even so $30 is a steal. Highly recommend even for one to two people!
