If you're looking for a medium-heavy cooperative dungeon crawler board game without dice, Jaws of the Lion is about as good as it gets. At $26, it's an absolute steal.

Its big brother, Gloomhaven, has been the #1 ranked game on BoardGameGeek for several years now. JotL is a separate, smaller campaign with some streamlining but largely the same gameplay.
Fair point. But in defense, it doesn't show up as a paid app (it just says "install") however has in-app purchases listed as $3.99 per item.
I hope I don't get hate for this but have you considered looking the app up on your respective apple/android store? It takes 5 seconds to look up something like this.

Would I like this game? I like roguelikes and deckbuilding games. Also like games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, Tiny Towns, and Azul.

Is there any ability to combine things between the games?

Excellent deal on a fantastic game. Looks a lot more difficult than it is. Probably the best tutorial of any boardgame I've ever played, which is a lot. If you have even a passing interest in board games beyond the classics and stuff like D&D, this is a no brainer. Hell, it's worth a purchase at full price. The maps are all cleverly in books, which makes setup/cleanup a snap.

I think most people who like boardgames would love this. Yes. Buy it.

I'll pile on to endorse it too. I own this myself and I've played it and Gloomhaven. JotL is a very good value at this price.

This is extremely different than the games you mentioned - JotL helps a lot with the learning curve and introduces mechanics gradually (so it's manageable), but it is much more involved than your typical Catan game. The way I describe Gloomhaven to folks is it's D&D-lite, JotL is like D&D-even liter.

I really like the game but I have friends who are kind-of into board games and hated this style of game. Gloomhaven is ranked #1 on BoardGameGeek because the folks who play very involved board games are the ones who would review it on a website for board games. I would not recommend this as a casual sit-down game.

Either way, I think it's worth a shot at this price!

Wow, this is great, thank you! I didn't know if I would like the original, but this seems like the right amount of game and depth for me! Thanks

Fun, somewhat heavy co-op game and a great value. The biggest complaint about the game is probably the amount of things to keep track of and admin. If you have the game (Regular or JotL), I highly recommend the"Gloomhaven Helper" app from the Google play store. It automates all the monster cards and takes care of health/condition tracking.

Do you have to play this game in a destructive manner? I know there are stickers to place on the main map that you could just keep track of in another way. Wasn't sure if there are other parts that are kind of forever changed through the game play.

Yes, the game includes stickers that are intended to be used to track your campaign. Alternatively, there are Apps which accomplish the same thing. My wife and I used the iOS App 'Gloomhaven Campaign Tracker' which allows you to track Jaws of the Lion progress. I believe that App is also available for Android.

No. You can purchase removable stickers and use those instead. I could maybe see doing that for regular Gloomhaven. The JOTL stickers are presently$8.50 on amazon. Personally, I would not get them. The game itself is so inexpensive with such deals that its cheap enough just to get a second copy. Then you don't need to spend hours peeling away stickers and resorting components, and everything is free of wear the second time through.

I also second the use of the Gloomhaven Helper app. It is fantastic. However, don't get it until you have completed at least 3 levels. The game spoonfeeds new rules so it is not too difficult at first. After about 3 levels you will have a sence of how the game works and the app will make a lot more sense.

Played an hour or two with the GF after buying this on sale.

We completed one or two "maps" or pages I guess you could call them. Didn't find it too terribly enjoyable to be honest.

Does it get better after the initial learning curve/training?
