Great product. I use mine almost every day for streaming, Steam streaming and Kodi. Much better for kodi than firetv if you have a large library.

Its interesting to see most positive comments are from people who own this and use it daily. The nay sayers look at the spec on paper and call it crap or they dont have a use case for such a powerful player.

Yeah, every thread with an Apple TV 4K has droves of comments lamenting the price (even when it was $120) and comparing it to their $25 Fire Stick, but zero mention of the price on the Shield TV Pro. I guess it's okay when it's not Apple asking too much for their product.
If you went into Nvidia's ecosystem early, that device would have lasted for three AppleTV generations. Add the aggregated cost of three AppleTV boxes and compare it with an Nvidia Shield Pro (2015). The AppleTV still can't do everything the Nvidia Shield can do despite having three attempts from Apple to do so. Oh yeah, I own the latest AppleTV4K so I know what I am talking about. I've been in the streaming game since 2008 (Hulu and Netflix) and tried all sorts of streamers. I can effortlessly play Dolby Vision content off my Synology DS920+, The AppleTV4K just gives me a buffering circle with DV content. See that device connected to my Shield? That's a 250GB SATA SSD for downloading movies I am too lazy to do from the Synology with CinemaHD with a Debrid account. The only thing the Apple4K can do better is stream live TV from my HDHomeRun Extend with Plex. But the native HDHomerun app works perfectly fine on the Shield, and so does the Channels app. If all you need is a basic streamer for Netflix/HBOmax/Prime Video etc, then an Amazon 4K stick will suffice. But if you are a hardcore movie watcher with your own collection of films, nothing yet comes close to the Shield. Maybe an HTPC Mini-PC with Dolby Vision someday, but I haven't seen one with DV. Not bad for a 7-year-old technology eh? Still kicking Apple's butt since 2015.

Its because it is crap. Old outdated worthless e waste. Seriously, it's hard to find something that is a worse buy no matter what your use case is. A 3 year old used phone is literally more useful than this.
I'll bite, why exactly? I own the device, use it on daily basis. It's been great to me, worth the price. None of 3 year old phone can do what it does

I use Plex. I always think I want one of these but haven't thought of a good reason. Not knocking it. I wouldn't mind being gifted one.

I prefer spotify just from ease of use. Amazon is just easier to use with their devices and my wife listens to it a lot because she can tell it which devices to play on and she can then have it playing in the rooms she wants. I have a nice sound system using a nice mid-level Denon receiver that I got at Fry's when they would run them for half off or more. If they were still around with those deals I would have upgraded by now. I'm not into the surround/atmos music audio. I've never been impressed with what I've heard. l would like to play the audio at the resolution they are streaming though, which really annoys me with the shield. To be a top notch player, they just ignore the music aspect of it.
I remember those deals at Fry's !! Frys was so great, pity its gone.
If you have a surround setup try the Dolby Music modes or other surround modes, they are good.

Appreciate your response as well, as stated above I'm using Plex for server and playback. So the 3D formats are already ripped and on the server. Series X doesn't properly send 3D signals so my projector never recognizes it and the 3D options remain greyed out.
if you mean 3d hshs/sbs rips, they will work if the video output triggers the 3d mode on the tv/projector. I don't have a 3d tv or movie to test, however a few things I recall - I don't think Shield supports full 3d inside an iso.

I have two from 2015 and a new Pro model. Been using them daily all this time, still work great. I'd upgrade the two 2015 models to pro but there's really no need, they work perfectly. These have been the best tech purchase I've ever made all told. Super flexible and constantly updated so they stay relevant. Has the horsepower to handle a huge Kodi library, I've recently changed over to Plex though and it browses my Synology NAS like a dream. If you have a clue, this is the tool you want.

The only issue I had is one of the four game controllers wouldn't pair up after sitting in a drawer for a few years. I finally decided to start messing around with emulation and it just wouldn't work, tried multiple fixes but oh well.

The remotes are kind of stupid, I switch to Netflix accidentally most of the time when I pick it up.

I have 3 of these. After using it the bulit on TV apps feel dog slow. Most TVs also have 100Mb Ethernet where this is full gig. If that doesn't make sense or mean anything to you then this probably isn't worth the money.

I guess I'm too set in my ways. I don't care for those. It is the receiver making all the decisions on where to place sounds, it just doesn't work for me.. Now I listen to old music so that may be part of the problem. For music I like the sound coming directly at me. I hate it when I read posts on an album that they are listening to in surround/atmos and they say that is the way the creator intended it. I'm thinking, the creator has been dead for 20 years, this is not what they were intending.

I'm guessing the majority of people use wireless so the 100mb Ethernet doesn't matter.

I keep hoping with the video market slowing down that they will put some resources toward this.

As has been stated elsewhere in this thread, the shield for whatever reason will not play HD music. Going thru the tv may be the only option then for that.

You are 100% correct. The surround sound algorithms work better for pop/electronic music, I don't listen to a lot of music styles though. I've noticed it can work surprisingly well for jazz though. One mode you might try is all ch which sends same sound to every speaker - its of course not natural but it makes you feel enveloped in sound.

For normal listening one good tip is to toe in the speakers towards your main position, maybe even cross them. Depending on the type of speaker you have and its directivity, this can make a big difference. As well as using the EQ in modern receivers to adjust the sound.
