    Some streaming devices offer better performance than native TV apps. Smart TVs usually have weaker processing, slower internet connection, lack support for certain audio codecs, etc. Sometimes it's just a preference for UI (I've never seen a smart TV UI that I thought was good) or wanting features like an Apple TV being a HomeKit hub or other added features.

    Good deal. The new model's biggest addition is support for HDR10+ but unless you have a TV that doesn't support Dolby Vision, this is the one to buy

    If you have YouTube TV and/or a sports fanatic I'd recommend the Apple TV. The YTTV guide is WAY better than the Roku or the Firestick. The ATV guide has an active window on the guide so you can see if that channel is on a commercial or not. For sports, the ESPN app lets you "multicast" multiple games as long as it's on an ESPN channel including ABC. I love the rechargeable remote once I turn off the touch pad/control, MUCH better than the touch one from 2 gens ago. Don't get me wrong Roku and Firestick are doable if you're on a tight budget, but if you can afford it go with the Apple TV.

    Depends how invested you are in the apple ecosystem. I use mine as a HomeKit hub and this model can also be used as a thread/matter hub.
    If all you will ever use it for is Netflix and Disney then it's probably not worth it.
    I will say that this device will absolutely outlast the built in OS of any TV. My current Apple TV HD is from 2015 and is still snappy and fully functioning. My newer Roku is completely useless now, the updates have made it unbearably slow. My LG smart TV is starting to face the same issues. YouTube can barely load. This is the reason I'm buying this model.
    The C1 is a very good LG unit so you still have a long time to go before it starts to face death through updates.

    Is TvOS completely ad-free? I switched from roku (which was fairly easy to remove ads), to built-in google tv and was horrified by the extent of the ad integration. Flauncher makes it work but I don't like the idea that it needs to be modified out of the box.

    I'm not sure if I understand the question, but if watch a lot of YouTube, you'll want the 2nd Generation Apple TV 4K. The 2nd Gen ATV supports 4K60 and more video codecs in YouTube. There's very little buffering as well. You'll be hard pressed to find a better streamer for $79.99 or less.
