This CPU does run pretty hot naturally, so have a good cooler for it. I paired it with a Scythe FUMA Rev B cooler and it does work but the "CCD #0" temp has hit 91-92c MAX a couple times according to HWMonitor. Usually stays 70c-82c though.

I ended up going with an ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS (or if you have room for a full sized ATX board you could go for the ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS board) because it had usb flash bios , it easily let me flash the bios without having a CPU, RAM and/or a video card installed.. you just plug the 24 pin power adapter from your PC's power supply into the motherboard and follow the instructions the MB's manufacturer gives to upgrade the bios via a usb flash drive.
Alternately if you really have your heart set on a MB without usb bios flash ability you could contact amd and see if they'll send you a loaner CPU that will let you get the MB up and running such that you can update the bios

note that it has to be a X470/B450 type motherboard and they'll want you to email the manufacturer of the MB which I found to be pretty easy once you explain you need the manufacturer to basically say " we can't help you " ... I found in my case ASrock replied with 3 options one of which was the same amd loaner kit the other two being bring it to a local store and/or mail it to asrock for a bios upgrade but I think that email would have worked as far as satisfying amd such that they would send you a loaner cpu ... I never found out because the asus MB solved the problem for me instead
Aside from that amd wants a picture of the amd processor itself so get a pic of that before you put thermal paste or what not on it (good idea to do that anyways so you have a record of the serial number printed on the CPU ) and a picture of the amd motherboard showing the model number so get those pics before assembling the PC if you want the loaner CPU
To me it was a lot of hassle, personally I'd just go with a MB with usb flash bios.
Also re: the free game they'll make you jump through some hoops ... when they say "out of game licenses" it doesn't mean " Oh well we're not giving out any more free copies of uncharted right now" it means AMD thinks (mistakenly) that you've redeemed too many free game bonuses... just follow the instructions it gives you afterwards to contact amd support and probably within 24 hours they'll email you back saying " we've increased your game licenses number allowed try again", follow the prompts again and you get your free uncharted game.. annoying but the game is what $40 or $50 normally? I would argue worth the effort
also ordered a asrock b550 taichi for $200, have everything else from my old system
my x99 mobo is starting to go so it will be a nice upgrade to a 5820k, was considering the 13600k but "good" boards are alot more expensive, and add onto that I would have spend another $20 to get a new lga1700 mounting kit for my aio, and the cpu is only $10 less (K model)
I dont really do anything cpu heavy work loads besides some compressing and uncompress here and there, just pretty much gaming

This is ideal for big AIR coolers, since you can basicly set a very silent, nearly flat fan curve slightly above MINIMUM_RPM and you cool the CPU semi-passive. The low wattage means that the AIR cooler is nearly able to cool the CPU sustained in semi-passive mode.
AIO's dont deal that well with random temperature peaks and semi-passive mode, because the radiator fins are not optimized for low airflow scenarios.
=> you end up with AIO fans still having to run at audible RPM levels to do ANYTHING for cooling, while your PUMP has to be kept 80-100% PWM to deal with the random "idle" peaks of the 5800x3D. AIR coolers have simply mass for peaks to deal with, AIOs dont transfer heat at all without enough flowrate.
Low wattage CPUs with high peaks are the worst case scenario for AIO's, they are simply not made for this.
You can use AIOs if you want, its just a very bad choice for noise reasons.
