People always say that but Intel switches sockets every two years anyways. Most pc builders go 3-4 years between builds and most of us end up with new builds anyways as new motherboard chipsets have come out that support better memory, IO, newer versions of USB, thunderbolt, PCI-Express etc. So we end up upgrading the full system anyways.

The GameStop deal with 10% CB comes out to about $20 more for me after tax and that's worth it to not deal with Affirm.

If youre building new, get the 13600k. Its slightly more expensive, but 60% faster in multi-threaded workloads as it has 14 cores and slightly faster in gaming too.

The 5800x3D really is ideal for people who already own AM4 motherboards, and are upgrading from Zen 2 or Zen 1, older generations. Its okay for new builds, but really doesnt make sense when there are now far better products for similar enough prices.

I just bought through Affirm, and only asked for the last 4 of my social. So, I guess YMMV. Also, if you pay it off early you could get some of that charge back. I'm just gonna pay it off immediately.

I still have a bunch of DDR4 memory that I don't use. Would this be the best choice for an AMD system or would you invest in a newer AM5 board but with a DDR4 motherboard?

Am5 is ddr5 only, do you're stuck on am4 if you want to reuse memory

13600k benchmarks faster when using good DDR5 on a DDR5 motherboard. Which raises cost of entry of not just the motherboard but memory as well.
