To be fair, I have an M1 with 8gb and have no trouble throwing a bunch of programming and dev work at it. I'm talking android emulators running while having multiple IDEs running and building...

I wanted to get this one, but after watching this I not so sure. Might go with m1 if I find good deal. Although, this is for laptop, I assume its same with mini.

How much more is the 16GB model? I don't care about storage, etc. just want the additional memory.
If you have microcenter around you they lower their 16gb version to $110 discount making it $10 lower than apple edu price

Then you'd wish for something else and then you settle for Mac Mini Pro model. I'd bite at $8~900 for pro model.

Anything is fine. The only thing I might consider is monitor mount for your mini to make it extra clean.

8GB of non-upgradable RAM in 2023 is just sad, even for a low-end system. Apple been giving people barebones for ages and continues to do so, because people keep falling for their crap.

Based on the price of this unit being $500 at 8GB, that would mean simply getting another 8gb of RAM is valued at $200 according to their pricing. They are absolutely insane. I can buy 64GB of DDR4 ram for less than $200 at this point.

It's 2023, when Lenovo, HP, and Dell also sell desktops with 8 gb of RAM (and 4 gb for Lenovo).

Of course, what matters most is whether it's enough RAM for you. Unless you're more interested writing comments like the one I'm replying to than actually buying a computer.

Personally, I bought mine with 16 gb of RAM since I could (theoretically) need more than 8 gb for making music. I've had issues with the Mac mini (look up the issues with 4k screens and flickering), but not because of the RAM.
Have you actually needed more than 8gb of ram? I also make music but on a PC with 32g ram. I run Ableton and a midi controller.

Here's the thing. I'm pretty sure a majority of the population does not need more than 8. If they kowtowed and have to change their boards the costs will.be increased.

Anyone using one of these for OBS streaming? I'm looking to use with OBS, stream Deck and 3 USB cameras, and a Elgato HDMI capture device.

that's what's supposed to happen. RAM is there to be filled up. What's important is how/when your computer releases inactive processes to fill new active requests. MacOS has just always been better at that than Windows and why the majority of non-pro mac users are still fine with 8GB now.

Yeah it's insane, but pretty typical for Apple tax. Guessing you have never bought an Apple product before?

Yes, that's the important reason that M2 mini sale is poor. Apple made mistake to cut corner on this. Now they have to cut the price to move the inventory.
