Pretty slick deal for a 4060. Pop an SSD in the expansion slot and this should be a budget gaming monster.

If you can easily pay $600 more then why even ask this question?

Memory isn't soldered, which was a big concern of mine.

Supports up to 32GB (2 x 8 GB) SO-DIMM DDR5-5600

Just picked up a "satisfactory " condition from my Best Buy here in Torrance ca. I might have gotten extremely lucky as for 700 bucks the laptop is in prisitine shape. I don't mind it being open box but take it from my experience …go for less than "excellent " conditions if you can and gamble.

Yeah having worked there for a while you usually have a better time with Open-box items in-store (unless your precinct sucks which isn't super uncommon these days)

What are you on about?

Product Height - 0.87 inches
Backlit Keyboard - Yes

Meanwhile this "slim" Lenovo:

Product Height - 0.99 inches
I don't believe the spec, I was judging by the pics. Doesn't look backlit, and the thickness is hard to believe. Look at the side shot with the Ethernet and USB ports, the case is more than 2x the height of the Ethernet port.

I've had terrible experiences with BB open box both "satisfactory" and "excellent" conditions. Five laptops were all display models with significant use. Screen burn in, non-operating cameras, failing screens. I bought both online shipped and in store. I hate returning purchases but do not want a display model that has expired warranty.
Fwiw, I'm about 50/50. The display models I return immediately, typically come without original box. This one was marked as open box satisfactory and came with the Lenovo box and OEM charger. 2 battery cycles. Warranty was started on 7/31/23. Honestly the laptop looked flawless. Still had the fabric that goes between the keyboard and screen when shipped new and plastic peelie thing on the power button. The condition sticker said "smudges." IMHO always worth a try if there's one nearby or available for shipping.

You don't believe the specs? The review pictures show the keyboard is backlit. An rj45 port is .28" tall, so yeah, slightly more than 2x the height of an ethernet port is about .87" as the specs state.

I'm sorry you were wrong, but it's time to let it go.

Nah, you're wrong, sorry. BB has the wrong spec.

Per ASUS: https://www.asus.com/us/laptops/f.../techspec/

35.5 x 25.2 x 2.21 ~ 2.68 cm (13.98" x 9.92" x 0.87" ~ 1.06")

It's 1.06" at its thickest. It's 22% thicker than BB claims; 0.87" is probably the thickness with the screen up, or at the narrowest portion.

Also, your L5 Slim specs are wrong/incomplete. Per Lenovo spec sheet:

https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/L...82Y9000QUS

It's 0.78" to 0.99" for this particular model (probably due to a larger cooling rubber strip).

For other models in the same family:
https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/L...82Y9000MUS (I just picked a model in this family, they all have the same chassis)

0.78" to 0.86"

In both cases, the L5 slim is slimmer than the ASUS model by quite a bit (%-wise...7% to 19%).

I'm sure they're both fine machines, and I'd prefer the AMD GPU (better Linux support by a long shot...I have an L5 Pro with the 5800h + 3070 and the nVidia drivers on Linux are regrettable). I'm tempted to go for the ASUS model for that reason and sell mine.

3 year warranty extension is $380 crazy !
BestBuy tries to sell you that stuff heavily… They're a dying business and this is one of their last ditch efforts. It's extremely shady.

Yeah same situation, it's in pristine condition and I lucked out nothing else for 100s of miles. For 700 to include tax it's a great deal!!
