A very good deal. But seems no PD charging/DisplayPort via USB-C.
Also available for the same price from Best Buy via eBay [ebay.com]

Backlit keyboards should be standard - Agreed.

In this particular case, no backlit keyboard DOES NOT kill the deal (IMO).

SHOOT

I missed that....

So if I want to drive 2 monitors and output video from HDMI..... AND the USB-C, I'll have to use one of those UBS-to-HDMI displaylink adapters?

Nope, IMO. Comes close though. Might bump the "deal breaker" line. But doesn't cross it.

For USB-C charging, you need this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334810521036 (or something similar shipped from US).
Then you can use USB chargers on the Asus.

The MyAsus App has options for 80% and 60% and standard on this model.
Thank you for confirming

Now I am on the fence since the USB-C doesn't have video out, I would need to use one of those dinky USB-to-HDMI displaylink adapters

How many monitors do you need?

Total of (3)

I'm ok with using 1 displaylink adapter
Just not so sure about 2 displaylink adapters

Only driving 1080p monitors though, so maybe it would be OK?

One other thing I remembered for those considering this -- the Windows 11 Home is in "S Mode", meaning you can only install apps from the App Store. There is a way out of S Mode, but at the moment, I don't remember. Maybe someone here who has done it can chime in.

What about using one of those cheap USB-C hubs that have a couple HDMI ports? Amazon has a ton of them.

Oh true. Yeah one of those would work to give me (2) more HDMI ports. They're not too expensive, I think the legit ones are $50-$60...you can get the no-name ones for less

This is a great deal for this price IF

You don't care about USB-C charging, USB-C video out or USB-C dock.

The other minor nitpick is that there is no backlit keyboard.

Otherwise can't get really a better value at this price (ignoring refurbs).

I believe there is 8GB soldered on, and a 4GB SODIMM in the socket. Take out the 4GB and put in an 8GB for 16GB total, where all 16GB runs at the same speed. Add a larger SODIMM and then the 8GB on system board pairs with the first 8GB on the SODIMM for quad channel mode. Anything over 16GB will be dual channel.

To be honest, you'll never know the difference. This isn't exactly a workstation-class laptop.
The first paired 16GB will run in dual channel. I don't think this will run in quad channel mode as this is DDR4-3200 (not DDR5). Correct me if I am wrong.

Just for home. And 8gb is cheap. Thank you. 1 more question. Should I buy Crucial ram?
16-24GB RAM should cover the needs of 95% of home user.
Crucial is owned by Micron which is the third largest RAM manufacturer after Samsung and SK Hynix. It's usually good.

Does ASUS have Battery Health utility enabled? That utility allows you to set the charge limiting to no more than say 80%, so you can extend the usable life of the battery? You access it through the MyASUS app, under "Customization". If "Customization" doesn't show up in the menu on the left in MyASUS, it means the bios doesn't have it.

It seems not every ASUS laptop has this capablity

Any insight would be appreciated from those who have this and can check the MyASUS app
Thank you kindly
Basically all new ASUS laptops have MyASUS installed. User could download and install it [asus.com] again if it's been somehow removed. There is also a list of supporting models for the application.

In any case you need to swtich out from S-mode [microsoft.com], you could always do so for free with few clicks, but it's a one-way operation.

Correct, however not all ASUS laptops have the battery charging feature in bios
MyASUS can be installed on anything. It will automatically detect the bios, and then enable "Customization" to show up in the menu list on the left on the MyASUS app splash page. That's what I was asking about

But it has been confirmed that this does have Battery Customization enabled

Actually, it does not work. I had a multi function USB-C hub with dual HDMI and neither port worked to an HDMI monitor. Sorry.

Yes it is. There is a single 2280 NVMe slot. Oddly, both the SSD and WIFI card are at odd angles to the system board, almost because the cooling fan is in the way. Never seen anything like it!
