upgrading the ram is more expensive than I thoughht it would be. Adding a 16gb ddr5 sodimm is about 45-40 dollars, and adding 32gb is about 90 dollars. After doing that and upgrading the internal ssd, it almost makes sense to buy a different laptop because that adds another $200 to the price tag.
i get 140fps in cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p near ultra with dlss frame generation on. Customizing the thermal limits is necessary for controlling the fan noise though
what laptop did you wish you got after spending the money upgrading?
Might as well get a desktop around $7-800 and a cheap Chromebook with what's left over. I wonder if game streaming is the best option cost wise over a decade.
I haven't considered streaming because I like to own my games.
Great to know. I have been on the fence between this and Lenovo legion slim 5. Any idea how the dual channel RAM works with mismatched sizes? I have tried to read up but could not find concrete info.
Fan noise during gaming isn't any different from my Legion, but that's easily managed with headphones. It's a reminder that some level of fan noise is unavoidable for gaming laptops. The heat buildup around where my hands rest and type is minimal, which is a stark contrast to the heat issues I've experienced with an Acer Predator in the past.
During my initial setup, I noticed a slight buzzing or coil whine under the keyboard when launching War Thunder. However, this issue resolved itself after a few minutes. I opted for a fresh installation of Windows 11 and used g-helper from GitHub instead of Asus Armory Crate to avoid unnecessary bloatware.
I'll keep an eye on the buzzing issue and update if it occurs again. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the performance and experience this laptop offers.
