If it's to upgrade your sound quality, your speakers are thee biggest influencers with that imo.
So if any of your current speakers are "to hold you over" until you "fill in the blank".
I would concentrate on the fill in the blank 1st.
Contrary to popular belief, the quality of every speaker matters with HT imo.
Too often people sacrifice quality to include "Atmos".
The quality of your core speakers plays a big role on Atmos, build a good one 1st before upgrading to it imo.
If it's for features, just remember this tech changes quickly.
You may find you want that new tech that's out by the time you use the one you already paid for and end up buying a newer receiver.
Agree with your approach to upgrade the speaker.
Just got the R-52C replaced with RP450C, dialog sounds much better now.
I'm keeping an eye out for good deals on RP-8000 and will jump on it.
Thank you very much for sharing your feedback.
Having many personal experiences with many different brands that offer some form of Dirac including this one.
I can tell you unequivocally, that quote I provided from Dirac's user manual is universal & definitive!
If you want to believe Dirac is wrong & there is a better resource, that is completely your prerogative, no debate there.
What is I am saying is that what you has posted initially was inaccurate
You do not initially set speaker levels or distance with Dirac.
Here is a video from Dirac themselves, showing initial set up

Do you own this product in this thread or plan on buying it? ..if not its a moot point
If you were to own a Dirac equipped product there are differences in the implementation of the room correction system
Dirac does not go into details about the implementation of their product by individual manufacturers.....
.
Again, below is a great resource for anyone who owns one of these Onkyos and all the tips and tricks with set up and adjustment.

On AVS,there are also separate Dirac calibration threads as well as some specific product calibration threads for certain products with their own tips and tricks
There is nothing out there even close, sonically, to this unit for the price.
Additionally, I think this product is on its way out of availability.
This price reflects that.

"Dirac Live: The filter design page is presented without Bass Control features and filters are calculated without any form of bass management."
That is pretty straight forward and definitive imo.
After all setting crossovers is a form of "managing bass" between your loudspeakers & subwoofer(s).
I provided the tips and tricks(pro tips) of a renowned AV professional that apparently agrees with Dirac(as do I).
Basically EQ your sub(s)(if you have the ability to) & set crossovers in your processor prior to running Dirac Live.
If you read & understood what Dirac DLBC RCs offers you would know then you do not need to set crossovers. It sounds like you don't have personal experience with DLBC?
As for me from personal experience IMO I agree with Dirac.
If you own this or the RZ50, it's a moot point, they do not offer DLBC.

DLBC is not part of this product and a moot point
I actually own a Onkyo product as well as others that have DLBC
By that I mean not a set up or demo...but actually own and have put them though the paces
That was my point..perhaps you dont know
There are nuances to these products that are Dirac implementation specific to the brand

If you understand Dirac only offers bass management with their DLBC RC.
Why is it "inaccurate" to set crossovers prior to using Dirac Live?
If there is a tip, trick, nuances that will add DLBC to this specific product or even the RZ50 please share!?
I know for me I have never read of any claim that can!
The only Onkyo product that "has" DLBC as an add on option is the RZ70.
You own that and purchased DLBC for it?
IMO no do not turn it off, it being tuned is a good thing.
I would also suggest setting your crossovers accordingly.
You can always run it both ways and see which you prefer.
Edit: I would recommend watching that video from AA I provided earlier.
He does a good job explaining what DL is doing and how to use it from their experience.
I agree make adjustments within Dirac Live not processor or sub.
If you jump to around 15:50 mark, he briefly covers regarding Dirac Live vs DLBC and even shows you the screen you get with DLBC and adjustments you can make.
You do not get either of those with Dirac Live.

Gentlemen's,
I respect both of you, but it's fairly easy to settle this dispute:
Run Dirac calibration one way and other way, then compare results and happily exhale.
You can even do A/B test with 2 AVR's to prove your point.

Thanks but I'm not debating results.
I gave information regarding the common misconception that Dirac Live includes their bass management/control.
Now whether someone believes Dirac or not and or results, not debating any of that.
