I picked up the 85" QM8 a few weeks back when BB had this TV for the same price.

So far, we're absolutely loving this TV. No dirty screen effect or banding issues to speak of. It's super bright, which is great since we have it in a room with a large amount of natural light. We've been using it mainly to play games on PS5, but tried out a few 4K HDR movies when we first got it. Everything we've tested on the QM8 looked nice and vibrant.

I've read complaints about motion, but we followed Rtings' advice and turned all the motion settings off. Also heard upscaling issues the QM8 had when it originally came out, but TCL fixed these in a recent update.

I don't have an OLED so I can't compare with higher end TV's, but this seems like the best bang for your buck you can buy at the moment.

I also got this TV a week ago and I had the luxury of having Samsung S90C to compare it to, here's what I noticed:
- super bright TV for the money, brighter that Bravia 9 and any other Tv I ever had
- HDR looks amazing and very comparable to the Samsung OLED, but it lacks in skin tone and a few shadow details. You won't ever notice this if you didn't have another TV to compare it to
- Motion is fine, very similar to the Samsung, watched sports on it and movies and it does the job. You have to turn on motion settings but that's something you will have to do with any TV, also similar to Samsung
- color saturation: not 100% like Samsung but I would say 90%, again not noticeable without a reference Tv
- Dolby Vision: this is the biggest drawback of the TV, Dolby vision bright is not bright at all and you can not control the brightness in DV mode. I can control the brightness in DV mode in a Sony OLED but not in this TCL. One note, after having the Samsung s90c, I do not miss DV at all.

Value: this an amazing value for an 85 inch. No issues whatsoever. If you can wait till this time next year you might be able to get the 2024 and they supposedly fixed the specular highlights issues with DV in that one.

This deal is the 2023 model (should probably say in title to avoid confusion). Are you discussing the 2024 model? Seems doubtful that the 2023 model is brighter than a Bravia 9.

I looked at your link--you're saying you're seeing ghosting/artifacting constantly with motion!?? That's so bad! Any way we can get a video link (GIF or otherwise) because this picture is terrible for the TV!
I have this from Avatar, original, slowed down and a still. I'll have to get video of the motion issues on a video game later.

When you turn motion settings off, you still get the base/native 120hz, right? I don't necessarily need it higher than that (no experience) but would want at least 120hz.

Also, have you watched any American football on it? If yes, do you see streaks behind the ball when the ball is in the air during a passing attempt? Those little "tails" drive me crazy on my old TV.
Yes - still get 120hz. But slower frame rate content isn't "smoothed" out. I prefer it that way to the soap opera effect of motion-enhanced settings. Haven't watched sports on it yet.

Just a thought here, the power cost for this model TCL is quite higher than most other brands, at least 2-3x as high as some. For example, the power rating for this TCL 85" is $83 yearly with average usage. The 85" Samsung QN90C from last year is $27. If you use the television more than average, the cost gap widens. So, in a 5 year period, you may be spending $300-$600 more on this model in energy usage than a different model / manufacturer.

This is a good call out. Something that I hadn't considered is I had figured that almost all TVs in the respective size ranges would all have similar energy uses.

In any case, although I just bought the TV, it looks like Best buy canceled my order because they said the TV was on delaying that they weren't sure when they were going to get more so they went ahead and canceled the TV but they failed to cancel the warranty lmao

I'm not the op to change title, but yes I'm discussing 2023 model which this deal is for

This tv is definitely inefficient. It radiates a lot of heat from the screen, over 110F. It literally warms up my living room.

Great deal. I have a 2019 6 series TCL that's been great. Getting my second 65 inch TCL for the bedroom.

Great TV for 4K content, but awful for sports and upscalling low bitrate content. There's a reason behind the "Sony Tax" no one can upscale like Sony lol

Don't need an 85", 65 should more than suit my needs. Is this a historical low price for the 65" model, too? Debating between this one or a Hisense U8 65".

Well when it breaks after 3 years, you'll save all that power.

Bought the highly touted TCL 6 series R646 and it died within 16 months. I neglected to get an extended warranty and TCL refused to help outside of the one year they provide. As much as I'd like to pull the trigger on something like this, I just feel like they have an inferior product to bigger, more well-known names. I'll pass!
