Worked for about a year and was good enough. The AA wireless device (different device than this) has a slew of features and an app. The feature I ended up needing was to scale the android auto interface differently than OEM. It also switches between Apple and Android for those of you who also live in a house divided. Still a good deal for this one if you want a basic device.

Some newer cars don't have wireless android auto only wired AA by plugging in. This is nice to fix that and keeping your phone in your pocket

Bought this on Thursday, installed on Friday and has been working flawlessly in my Honda CRV 2019 Touring with my Pixel 6 Pro. By the time I'm backed out of my spot in my condo, I am up and running. It's perfect.

I used it over the long weekend to drive 500 miles round trip. This lost connection at least 4 times. In total of 8 hours of driving. It's really convenient, but take notes, it lost connection at a exit and i had to scramble with phone to figure out my next turn.

I have run it without case and EMI shield due to heat from chipset for few years without problem. Try it before return it just for the sake of it? Big Grin

Why not just leave it plug in and charge the phone at the same time too. Wired is more stable too.
Wired was WAY less stable for me. Had to be a short, perfect USB cable, couldn't move phone around or it would cut out. This is far more stable for me, and has been pretty good for the past year. Only downsides are that it takes some time to connect, and sometimes there's a decent "lag" when choosing songs. Otherwise it's been great.

If you have bt on you car, do you even need this?
Plenty of cars have bluetooth and AA, but not AA *over* bluetooth. Mine's that way (2018 Subaru Outback), and this is the only solution for having wireless AA.

Couldn't find a clear info. Can someone enlighten me how it works?
The device has both wifi and Bluetooth. So, is initial setup via Bluetooth and connection while in use via WiFi? If so, does it prevent the phone that's running AA from connecting to a hotspot (or actinh as a hotspot)? If the connection is via Bluetooth then what's the purpose of WiFi?

copy-n-paste from Copilot:

Ah, the intricate dance of wireless Android Auto—where Wi-Fi and Bluetooth waltz together in perfect harmony! 🕺💃 Let's unravel this tango, shall we?

Why the Dual Dance?

Bluetooth: Our trusty old Bluetooth has been serenading us for years. It's the go-to for connecting phones to cars, playing audio, and making sure we don't miss those important calls (because, let's face it, nobody wants to miss Grandma's weekly check-in).
Wi-Fi: Now, Wi-Fi is like the cool kid at the party—the one who can handle massive data transfers without breaking a sweat. It's the backbone of wireless Android Auto.
So, why do we need both? Let's break it down:

Wired Android Auto (USB Cable):
You plug in your phone via USB, and the magic begins. The wire transmits data to your car's screen (like maps, music, and messages), and you're grooving to your favorite tunes.
But wait! Bluetooth sneaks in from the shadows. It handles phone calls, whispering sweet nothings about missed calls and voicemails. 📞
Turning off Bluetooth? Nope, can't do that. It's like telling your GPS to take a vacation—it's essential for Android Auto to function smoothly.
Wireless Android Auto (Wi-Fi + Bluetooth):
Wi-Fi Direct takes center stage. It's the star of the show, handling all the data transmission. No more pesky wires!
But guess what? Bluetooth still has a role. It's the matchmaker, introducing your phone and car every time you hop in. "Hey, meet my friend Android Auto!" 🤝
Your car and phone pair up over Bluetooth, exchange pleasantries, and confirm that wireless Android Auto is a thing. Then they switch to Wi-Fi for the real action.
If you're using an aftermarket wireless Android Auto adapter (like AAWireless), there's an extra layer: Phone pairs with dongle, dongle starts the Android Auto party, and then it politely disconnects Bluetooth. 🎉
Why Not Bluetooth Alone?

Well, Bluetooth is like a tiny cup—it can't hold all the Android Auto goodness. It's great for calls and small tasks, but streaming maps, music, and messages? Nope, it's not up to the challenge.
Wi-Fi swoops in with its big ol' bucket, ready to carry all that data. It's like upgrading from a tricycle to a turbocharged sports car. 🚗💨
The Grand Finale:

When you step into your car, Bluetooth whispers, "Hey, Android Auto is here!" Wi-Fi nods, and the party begins.
Calls? Bluetooth handles those. Data? Wi-Fi Direct takes the lead.
And that, my friend, is how wireless Android Auto pirouettes its way into our hearts.

Thanks internet friend. It was ELI5. That explains Bluetooth + WiFi combo. And since it WiFi Direct instead of just WiFi, I am assuming the phone running AA can make another WiFi connection to hotspot (or act as hotspot for others to connect).

I plug wired to my 23 Sienna and my Subaru, they disconnect regardless. Android is just crap half the time esp if it goes through dead spots etc for mobile service. I have variations of pixel pros, they all disconnect randomly wired or AA wireless. Doesn't matter. Android sucks half the time that's all.
Tried 2 different wireless adapters on my pixel 7 pro and both would cut out when I lost cell signal. Not quite sure what it is with these devices, but I returned adapters both bc it's just not worth the hassle. Fortunately, my radio unit recently had an OTA update that allows wireless AA and it no longer cuts out at all.
