I'm coming from watching an old 60" LG 1080p plasma for the last ten years. The only TV's I've seen that have touched the great blacks, lack of motion artifacts and consistent viewing angles of plasmas, have been the LG OLED T.V.'s. I've been hoping that the OLED TV's would start dropping in price for 4 yrs now, and it just doesn't seem like it's going to ever happen.
I'm not willing to spend $3000 on a 70"+ TV, so this well reviewed Hisense seemed like a decent compromise. It's definitely a compromise. I still like the overall picture quality better on my 60" plasma, but I like the size and brightness of the Hisense. The Hisense has pretty decent Blacks and Contrast, but only from a direct, straight viewing angle. Any viewing from the sides of the TV and the picture quality seems to be severely compromised. I also hate the "soap opera effect" type of picture that was part of the TV's stock settings. I just don't understand how and why, anyone could possibly stand this type of refresh rate chicanery. It's unbearable to me, and luckily can be either mitigated or completely eliminated on this TV without too much fast motion artifacting.
All in all, I think it's a decent 75" TV for $800, but I'm still hoping for the day OLED's or some other plasma'esqe type of TV tech becomes widely available for a reasonable price, until then hopefully this $800 TV will fill the gap.

You are either severely misinformed or simply trolling. No LED can match plasma black levels since LED sets require a backlight to function.
Is it possible you are thinking of an IPS panel? A VA panel wins everytime vs IPS, but Plasma beats both.

OLED panels are very expensive to produce. If they were easy to make, LG wouldn't be the only game in town. But fear not, Q-OLEDs are coming soon and are only going to cost about as much as a new luxury SUV.
Seriously though, OLEDs have gotten dramatically cheaper in the past 4 years. The top-tier 65" C7 model that I bought in Nov 2017 was $3,000 for Black Friday, and the top tier 65" C1 model is $1,800 right now. That's 40% less.
I'm not sure if they even had a 75" in 2017 but it obviously would have been a whole lot more expensive than the $3,000 65" at the time, and the 77" C1 is even cheaper than that at $2,900 now. For anyone who wants the best picture quality, they're worth every penny. You can even shave off $400 more and get the 77" A1 with the 60hz panel for $2,500 or 65" for $1,500(!).
How difficult is it to setup a return in case I don't like it?
Does bestbuy come pick it up no questions asked? Just want to make sure before I pull the trigger.

This is why it's so annoying that LCD TVs are marketed as "LED". Anything for sale today is either an LCD or OLED, and everything we call "LED" or "QLED" (or any other variation) is just some form of LCD with an LED backlight. That's why saying "LED sets require a backlight" sounds so weird - because the LEDs -are- the backlight… for LCD panels.

"The Hisense U6G is better overall than the Vizio M7 Series Quantum 2021. The Hisense is a much better choice to use in well-lit rooms because it gets much brighter. The Hisense also has a better local dimming feature, but the Vizio displays deeper blacks because it has higher native contrast. Motion looks smoother on the Hisense thanks to the quicker response time, but the Vizio has more gaming features like VRR support."

I wonder if Best Buy is going to be hit with a bunch of returns on the problem riddled TCL's TVs...
they were. the picture is beautiful, the only inexpensive 75 va with hdmi 2.1 panel available, and now i dont even have the option to buy because a bunch of "user error is my middle name" slickdealers like you ruined it.
how hard is a damn tv to operate, geez. go overpay a thousand for sony trash and leave us alone.
OS slowness does seem like dumbness on TL's part because it apparently bit them with casuals, hope they didn't skimp on the actual CPU and it's just software. HOWEVER I never care very much about the built in TV OS because A) I'm on my xbox 90% of the time B) You can always just buy a $30 external dongle of whatever OS you like to fix the problem. Besides that I'm sure it's fine anyway as always.
As to this Tv I know I'll rarely use the 120 FPS feature of HDMI 2.1 TV's, so I should save $400+ dollars and get this. However the other part of me knows I'll always wish I hadn't cheaped out. The TCL R646 had it all.
Btw happy owner for 3 years of 2018 TCL 6 series 65". Just poking around to upgrade to 75" one of these days.

I dont know what specific model Sony you are comparing it to that you thought was trash.
I personally think the Sony X950H is a better set and the Samsung QN90A is a MUCH better set than the TCL R646
But you have to be about the details
DSE/grey uniformity, local dimming functionality , up scaling capability, color accuracy
If you are a stickler for those points then the extra money you may spend is worth it
Oh...and that consistent crashing and rebooting " could " be an issue for some as well
Then you have to ask your self why didnt TCL beta test the R646 before bringing it to market better?
The reviews with complaints are widespread on the TCL
This is not the first set with a lot of complaints...the R617 and last 8 series had their share
Glad your TCL has served you well. if I ever bought one I would 100% certainly buy the extended warranty
