I don't know, once you go up to 16gb ram and 512gb SSD on the air, you're only a couple hundred off this price. For the better gpu, screen, speakers, more ports, better cooling I chose to spend the extra $ hoping this will take longer before it becomes obsolete as well.

Are you using the apple edu store? The M1 air with 16/512 is $1260 before taxes. That's a much better deal than the M2 with the same specs and still a lot cheaper than this pro

Only 11 hours? how many people spent more than 11 hours a day with their laptop without a plug? Compared to my intel macbook pro it feels like the battery lasts 3 times longer minimum and feels significantly faster. The air is better and more portable for most people just doing basic task but i never felt my 14 inch to feel too heavy to carry around or have any significant battery anxiety. Most of the time i even max it out at 70% battery which leaves me about 30% battery when i am done with several hours of use to keep the battery healthy.

For those buying from Best Buy, don't buy their TotalTech service plan ($199 per year) unless you buy a lot of stuff from BB & would benefit from the 60 day returns/exchanges. Just buy AC+, the 3 Year upfront price for 16" MBP is $399; Costco sells it at time of purchase for $320.

TT includes AppleCare+ but you must be an active TotalTech member, If you do not renew TT after the first year, be aware that AC+ coverage ends. You won't be able to buy AC+ coverage even from Apple [apple.com] -- as it's only avail for purchase up to 60 days after MBP purchase.

If you keep TT for 2 Years, you have option to extend AC+ for the remaining 12 months. I asked BB tech support, how much it costs for the remaining 12 months. I got the run around.

Random question: are people buying SG or Silver? I was kinda into SG for a while. But after seeing Midnight Blue on 13" MBA they introduced earlier this month, it's Goodbye SG, Hello Midnight! Hope they expand Midnight Blue to the MBP lineup.

Agree. These laptops are really powerful. Also performance per watt is great.

All that performance is great till you start running out of RAM. Then it sucks big time.

Apple and Costco did a joint study and realized that underselling the RAM now (in 2022) with their MBPs will cost a bit of margins now (as in not being able to sell more memory) but will pay dividends in two years from now when as much as 40% of the current buyers will want to upgrade primarily due to lack of adequate memory slowing their systems down.

I'm very curious if that will happen. I know my 2020 M1 with 8gb won't last forever, but we're 2 years in and I haven't had a single issue with performance.

Might finally move on from my 2010 i7. Finally getting tired of the degraded battery life. Still pretty quick with an SSD in it though.

And regarding 8 GB of RAM, I'd rather have 16, but the price increase to get to 16 is almost another Macbook Air.
