You do you bro. No need to come in the thread and explain yourself. Nobody buys a mac for gaming.

Productivity is very subjective. Old school .exes, you're better off with Windows, but if you're not living in the 90s, most things run in a browser these days.

This model is perfect in almost every way, for me, except for the well-documented shortcomings with USB transfer speeds [9to5mac.com]. It appears that every M1/M2 variant MacBook is incapable of achieving spec'd 10gps USB speeds. I recently bought a M2 Air in hopes it resolved the 20-50 percent slower-than-spec USB transfer speeds. It didn't. Returned it a few days ago.

I started a thread on the /MacBook subreddi [reddit.com]t, asking if any M1 Pro MacBook users were able to achieve spec'd 10gbps USB speeds. No joy. Several of us tested M1/M2 models against 2018-2019 MacBook Pro models: the Intel-based machines achieve 10gbps USB speeds consistently. Meanwhile, the M1/M2 Macbook models are consistently 20-50 percent slower.

My use-case is probably unique (USB transfer speeds are critical, as I transfer large video files 'in the field') but still, specs are specs. My workflow doesn't change and I get 20-50 percent better transfer speeds on every other machine I own (2018 MBP, 2020 PC Desktop, etc.) Thunderbolt docks can achieve the USB speeds at spec, but I can't find any bus-powered TB docks with USB-C ports (I don't have access to power outlets in the field.) Also, I am conflicted about spending another $200-$300 for a dock, after spending $1,700 on a MacBook Pro. Its USB 3.1 Gen2 ports should achieve real-world USB 3.1 Gen2 speeds of 10gbps, like every other (older, less powerful) machine that I use. IMO.
i call this BS til picture is provided. transfer speed of any interface on paper will never be achieved in real life PERIOD!

Go big or go home.

I've been contemplating on buying the 16" for months because of price. Even with 400 off, the 1tb version is still $2200.

My Honda isn't worth that much. Lol
yup waiting for that 16" 1tb to hit 2k$

M1 is basically an A15 (chip inside iPhone 13 and 14) with a couple more cores and higher bandwidth and TDP. It really is a mobile phone chip.

I primarily come to these threads to see people like you rationalize not buying something that nobody asked to know or really cares about. The 2010 MBA part was icing on cake, ty.
im keeping my Apple IIc another 3 years. does everything i need still. no sale until apple innovates for real.. hard pass on this.

I don't even see the point of buying a MacBook anymore since Win10/11 is much better for productivity and gaming and Intel/AMD are putting out good numbers with Alder Lake and Ryzen. Hard pass on this-- keeping my old 2010 MBA Core2Duo just to say I have a Mac, and building a Zen 4 gamer next month.
Most people buying this are not buying it to play video games.

Your MBP crashes on boot up or during a game on SC: RM?

I just spoke to Apple and share screen. They suggested to speak to Blizzard about this.

At new Macbook style pricing, too....
I guess if you can wait a year you can always try your luck at a cheap M2. I'm waiting out for the notchless screen if at all possible, but my '13 MBP is about to throw in the towel.
