Not sure where you're coming from on this. Intel draws 300W on open test benches just to top AMD's gaming on chips that actually hit those speeds in people's normal machines. (Most prebuilts with Intel will actually not beat AMD because you need exceptional cooling or they throttle). So AMD made this ONE chip that could beat Intel using tech that Intel can't match.

Now when I see an Intel chip actually win in gaming at 125W power envelopes, I'll concede the crown to Intel. But AMD does need to get better at lying...ahem...I mean marketing. Just release a 600W chip that runs at 7GHz and needs phase cooling, then act like your chip is the fastest stock chip. That's nearly what Intel is doing. This CPU is very strong in gaming. Neck and neck with the latest CPUs in certain games.

Can someone recommend a motherboard (<$300) that can undervolt this CPU?
I am considering getting a new workstation and would like to trade some performance with lower noise and heat. Seems like some old boards can't undervolt this particular model.

Currently on 3600 with 3070ti would this upgrade be worth it for me? Mostly play RTS and 4x stuff
Well it definitely would open up the taps on the 3070ti. Because a ryzen 3600 pairs well with a 3060 but just keep in mind, it will only do as well as your GPU will allow. So this cpu really needs to be paired with a 3080ti or 3090 to get the most advantage.

I don't like x570 with the fan on it. But there is a really nice MSI X570 board that doesn't have the chipset fan on it. A friend of mine got that and it's way overkill. It's definitely an overclocking board.

Thank you. Do those small fans make a lot of noise? Will that MSI board stays cool w/o one?

They don't. Until they do if dust gets in there or the fan gets old and worn out. It has a nice heatsink over the chipset so it's fine. Just have good air flow in the case if your concerned

Yeah that's not a huge improvement in performance maybe 20%. For me personally if your gonna upgrade and notice a difference that % needs to be like 50% minimum. I have a 3600 and this chip would see an improvement IF I also upgrade to a 3080ti or something. But I have an rtx 3050 and it's a good pairing with my 3600, if anything it's a bottleneck compared to the 3600. So I'm just gonna be content with this and if I do upgrade, it would have to be next year and I'll wait for the 5800x to show up on sale for 150$ lol
Yeah I got the 5600x for $159.99 from microcenter with a $50 off when they had it at $209 months ago.

I came from that cpu. And added a 240 cpu water cooler, this all pairs with my 3080 ti. I was concerned about heat from the video card in my micro ATX case. I ended up having to add 3 more case fans to suck air in.

Fyi this is the chip that Intel had to hide in their graphics to make the new Intel series look good.

3600 is definitely holding back the 3080. This would be a great cpu upgrade from a 3600

Is it the best overall upgrade for an AM4 build (coming from a 3600)? I'm more of a console gamer, but I wouldn't mind a boost in performance if I just have to drop the processor in & it can be air cooled.
For gaming, it's the only chip to upgrade to.

Personally, the 3600X does EVERYTHING I reasonable want to do. Sure, it could encode video a bit faster, but my gaming is always limited by my pre-mining craze GPU. So I'll get a new GPU in November and a new CPU when the 5800X3D drops under $300. Then I can ride this machine out on "high" (not "ultra") gaming settings for four more years.

Oh, my bad in that case.

You were calling AMD "greedy". I was saying that it was a necessary move to keep pace with Intel.

The 5800x3d is going to give 90%-95% of the GAMING performance of those next gen chips for way less than the next gen chips. If you are okay with being in the top 90 out of 100 then build with this chip.
You're not wrong. But I keep my computers for like 6+ years.

I was replying to someone who wants to build in a year though. Buying the 5800X3D at current prices for a build a year from now is a bad choice. If you prioritize gaming, buy a Ryzen 5 7600X3D for less in November 2023.

Higher benchmarks are sexy and all, but there is no single case where upgrading from 5600X to 5800x3D will take a game from unplayable to playable at 1440p or higher. If you're actually gaming at 1080p with a 3090, where the 5800x3D really shines, I'd have to question your sanity. Wait another generation.
Acutally in single core games like Stellaris and Hearts of iron and other things, it supposedly makes a huge difference.

I said playable vs not playable. The 5800x3D represents a quality of life improvement or a luxury in every case. Don't be pedantic.

Back live from Newegg. Code worked with Zip.

What GPU would be CPU-bound by the 5800x3d for 1440p? Might add a price watch for one to go in stock on sale. Probably wait for more RTX4000 series info at least.
