Again this is flat out false. It was no overclocking from before the original launch, explicitly. the link you quoted- but didn't bother to read- is from before the CPU was launched citing the fact overclocking was not supported.
And there was never any such burning problem with the 5800X3D either.
You seem to be confused about what chip this thread is even about.
You're obviously going to see better performance (especially 1% lows even at higher resolution) with the 3D chip but going from a 1600 to a 5700X is already going to be a night and day difference even at 4K. The 5700X has gone for like 150 before.
I've got a 3900x with a 4090 and know I need to upgrade, but I can't decide wither to go 5800x3d or what. I do a lot of gaming, but also do productivity work and it seems like i'd be making a step back on productivity from what i've seen, but would make large gains with games. Ugh...
And 7000 series doesn't seem like that big of a jump at 1440p for as much money as you have to invest with new MB & DDR5.

Depending on what kind of productivity tasks you do, a 7000 series CPU, even with less cores, should do better at most tasks. Though if you're considering basically doing a new build like that, the i5-13600KF performs great in both games and productivity tasks and can be had around $290-300, just something to consider.
Of topic, any of you have the new 78003d up and running ? What are your temps running at, I have the i150 xt rgb water cooler and it's idle around 100f

If you live near micro center, it is worth looking at AM5, Intel 12000 combo deals. Because if you buy this CPU ($300) + decent mobo (around $100) + ram (around $70), it will bring you close to $470.
Currently, micro center have AM5 combo for $450 (7700x+mobo+ram). The 5800x3D only has some noticeable gains over 7700x in 1080p where both CPU already push 100+ fps. At 1440p and above resolution, the gain is minimal at best if there is any gain. Going with AM5 will open an upgrade path for you in future.
My point is, I don't think it is a good idea to spend $400+ and build a brand new AM4 system today and lock you out of a future drop-in CPU upgrade down the line.
With that said, all my rambling is only applicable ONLY to people who live near a MicroCenter. If you don't have a local microcenter close to where you live, I understand a new AM5 system will cost around $700 to build, which is significantly higher than $450 of an AM4 system. In that case, you just have to weight what is best for you.

way too high, it should be in the 70s under full load. check your AIO if it's sitting correctly and also if it's running as it should

I've been eyeing a new system for the last several weeks and I 100% agree with you. This processor is not intended for people to build a system around; it's meant for those with AM4 to get one last squeeze out of the platform.

You're looking at your CPU temperatures in Fahrenheit? If so, then 100 degrees Fahrenheit is perfectly fine, though when discussing CPU temperatures, most people are talking about degrees Celsius.
100 degrees Fahrenheit is about 38 degrees Celsius, so if your CPU is idling at 100F, you're totally fine. Now if its at 100C, thats a massive problem.
While these chips have indeed never been marketed as or allowed to overclock, I highly recommend looking into undervolting using the PBO2 Tuner app, or your motherboard -- though most BIOS don't support reducing per-core voltage for this chip.
Most 5800x3d are "good silicon" and can run -25 to -30 undervolt on all cores, reducing voltage by ~0.1v. Not only does this result in notably less heat output, but the extra heat headroom allows the chip to consistently boost all cores to 4.45ghz when needed, which is much better than my 5900x could do.
And as I mentioned BIOS above, be sure to update to the latest BIOS for your motherboard, since 5800x3d is a relatively new chip and most boards probably have a new BIOS which better supports it.
Yup this is exactly what I did to and I can get consistent boost to 4.45ghz without hitting thermal throttling limits. I'm using a stock wraith prism cooler that was on my 3700X and idle temps are around 38C and stress-test temps around 80-82C. Under gaming load about low to mid 70C. Cinebench R23 scores of 14K and 1.4K for multi and single core.
Pretty happy with the upgrade considering my Valorant FPS went up from 140fps lows to no less than 400fps, with 500fps avg in game.
I'm on the fence about replacing my 3900x with this vs waiting a couple of years and getting a newer cpu+mobo+DDR5. This is a great deal, but I'm thinking I'll do the latter.
I too was contemplating upgrading to this from a 3900x until about a week ago I pulled the trigger. I don't regret it at all as my fps in CPU bound games improved by a ballpark. For example on EFT, I averaged around 60-70fps on the map Streets of Tarkov but now I get 90-110fps.
I have a 5800X and a 3080ti. I have a nice AM4 motherboard that's not older than a year, so I think I'm gonna hang onto it for a bit. Is it worth upgrading my cpu at all?
This is a 3440x1440 gaming rig only. All productivity has been over to my MacBook Pro.
I'm tempted to grab it just so I can "max out" my AM4 specs, but I dunno if it's worth it.
