Again this is flat out false. It was no overclocking from before the original launch, explicitly. the link you quoted- but didn't bother to read- is from before the CPU was launched citing the fact overclocking was not supported.

And there was never any such burning problem with the 5800X3D either.

You seem to be confused about what chip this thread is even about.

You're obviously going to see better performance (especially 1% lows even at higher resolution) with the 3D chip but going from a 1600 to a 5700X is already going to be a night and day difference even at 4K. The 5700X has gone for like 150 before.

In 4-5 years you can upgrade to AM6.

Thanks Bup! Dude I was just talking to my friend like WhyTF do I not live near a Microcenter. I live in Northern California, BBY won't even price match it cause the zip is so far away.... So yeah this is my best bet and I don't game enough or have anything near 4k resolution to do a AM5 build..... I am really just going to use this for VR. So waiting for the 6950xt to go sub 600.....

I am coming from a i7-4790k with 2x RX480OCs....... Yeah its time LOL

Upgraded from 5600X to 5800X3D and my FPS increased by 100 on average. Also, the extra cores are nice since this is my work computer too...and it sips on power. Amazing chip, definitely recommend if you want to keep your current AM4 platform running for at least another few years.

I had an AM4 system but decide to upgrade to 7900x with Mobo & 32gb Ram about a week or two ago for $473 after tax & coupon, rather than paying $300+ to upgrade cpu only on an old system

As someone who follows performance this isn't worth buying for new builds. As an upgrade from an old AM4 board that supports it, sure. The performance doesn't do so well compared to DDR5 based systems like everything on AM5.

The 3d vcache also has diminishing returns with resolutions above 1920x1080. It helps with cpu bottlenecks and it makes up for the relatively slow speed of DDR4.

If you look at benchmarks for AM5/DDR5 builds they're beating it and are a similar TCO now that memory and motherboard prices have come down. $338 for 32GB DDR5-6000 + 7700x 8-core at microcenter is a good example.

VR is generally high resolution because you're driving two displays so the 1080p gains probably won't apply to you. I really would look at a DDR5 build and see the price comparison. $300 for a 5800x3d is a 8 month old deal at this point and modern hardware has been cutting prices significantly.

Fairly commonly, even without Microcenter, there have been $500 combos for the AM5 ecosystem. They are pretty similar to the MC combos, including CPU, mobo, and RAM. Just have to keep on the lookout.

$473 is not "at this price" of $295.

the post i quoted from implies i could get a bundle of cpu + ram + mobo for $295 of equivalent performance of this 5800X3D

I call BS. I had a 3700x, then a 5800x, and now a 5800X3D. And I can assure you there isn't a single thing the 5800X3D does worse than the 3700x. You have something else going on there that needs to be investigated, but it's not the processor.
