The 18tb red pros were $249.99 recently, same 7200 rpm but 5 year warranty. Doesn't make much sense shucking drives anymore these days.
Years ago Seagate got the reputation of having a lot of failures, so a lot of people still won't buy them no matter how good of a deal it might be.
Good price, but I really want a 20GB+ at this $/GB

i'm pretty sure these are 7200RPM drives if you look up the spec sheet of the underlying drive inside them
Correct. All the EasyStores for the past several years have been actually 7200RPM, and exhibit the seek times of a 7200RPM drive. I'm not sure why WD continues to label them as 5400RPM except maybe to give themselves the option of arbitrarily changing these to use 5400RPM drives without notice based on supply.

in for 1.. waited too long for a decent non-enterprise, non-pro nas,non-seagate. This will be shucked immediately, timer disabled and used as an internal drive along with my other two shucked WD Easystore drives..

Thanks and repped!

Great price that beats last Black Friday price by 30 bucks. Of note, for those who have plex servers or the like, You can disable this drives automatic sleep function (or led) via the WD drive util (https://support-en.wd.com/app/ans...s#subject7 ) note that only easystores can have their sleep timer disabled the other versions that you can buy from retailers, including direct from WD doesn't allow disabling of the sleep function.)
Thanks for this info. Appears this must be run before shucking as the Utlility looks for only 'external' devices. So I will make sure to run this before shucking, disable sleep, then shuck it.

Unless they have changed something, it is just a controller piece that fits onto the drive. You can put it on at any time and run it like an external. It will pop out of the case when you shuck it.

Why would someone need 18tb for?
Small percentage of people are data hoarders. They constantly download stuff and never delete anything. Others have huge libraries of movies/shows that may or may not have been gotten legally. Some just use as backup for pictures. If you take a lot of pictures/videos and don't delete any of them you can run out of space quick. Some people run a business or side business that requires lots of storage such as content creators.

Same for me. I don't actually need the space so I will wait and see what BF brings.

Listen folks. All easystores manufactured over the past 12 months have been 7200 rpm. This 18tb version is 100% 7200 rpm

Just picked up two of the 14 TB for $199 ($14.28/tb) on Monday for purposes of shucking them. Haven't opened them up yet, so I'm tempted to take them back and get these instead at $13.89/tb.

When where is that deal?

Just picked it up at BB. Confirmed 7200rpm and I was able to turn off sleep timer. Now will shuck it!
