It's not left over stock, it's a strategic move between Apple and Walmart: https://corporate.walmart.com/new...ts-shelves

It's not $750. It's $900 w/ a $150 gift card. There's a difference.

Y'all acting like this laptop is paperweight just because it's 3 years old. Name a $700 Windows laptop that can match this in build quality and battery life...

OK, but most people are not like that. Most people will end up buying an iPad, or an iPhone, or something else later. I don't wanna be mean, but your a small majority.

Also think of it like this: 900$ MacBook + free AirPods
How do you know what most people would do?

Speaking of iPhone, where can I buy an iPhone with iOS 13 for no more than $150. I need one for Japan.
I got an iPhone SE 2022 model at Walmart on Black Friday 2023 for 90$. Right now there is a port in deal at Metro by Tmobile for 40$ iPhone 11 or 165$ iPhone 12.

I would reccomened iPhone SE as it is always on sale for 90-150 through various prepaid carriers. no contract or nothing like that.

But you must buy in US, and then take to Japan

Thanks. I was trying to see if i can get an unlocked one for $100. I will only use it for the transit(rail, train, etc.) app they have there to use on apple wallet. Don't need a sim card.

Best Buy open box excellent $616.99
I just bought an "Open Box- Excellent" silver MacBook Air this morning here in NJ. Funny thing is when I picked it up, the Apple box was pristine, without the cellophane wrap, and it was "secured" with that clear Best Buy security tape. When I opened it, it was untouched with the mummy wrap still in place on the laptop (never removed) and the accessories were all wrapped still as new. I have a feeling this BB and some other locations converted their few remaing M1 MBA inventory into "Open Box Excellent". My "open box" label was dated March 3 and "coincedently" the M3 Macbooks were officially releasd the next day on March 4...Hmmm. Anyway, I lucked out with the condition of mine. YMWV! (Note Open Box merchandise from BB doesn't always turn out so well.)

The Zenbook weighs 3.48lb vs. 2.8lb of this MBA, but the larger screen of 14.5" vs. MBA 13.3" is probably the main factor. Not necessarily a pro/con per se, but just due to slightly different form. The OLED screen is amazing and indeed eye candy. However, for those who are bothered by the subpixel issue, the Zenbook will not be for them.

MBA clearly wins on battery life. That being said, Zenbook battery should last a full day, around 6-8 hours, on normal use depending on screen setting (120hz or 60hz refresh rate and brightness) and power balance. Think people were reporting 4 ish hours running on full torch mode. Out of curiosity, do most people get "up to 18 hours" on MBA normal use with web browsing and watching videos?
I've never seen a battery estimate claimed by a laptop manufacturer that wasn't complete BS (or achieved under an extremely unrealistic scenario).

The 18 hours figure is probably possible if you just leave it running a H.264 video on low brightness + airplane mode... Real usage estimate would probably put it in the range of 10 - 12 hours.

What was the warranty status of the open box?

I haven't turned it on yet (will get to it in a couple days) but I will say from past experience of the various Macs I bought over the last 1-2 years (maybe 9 of them) the warranty status was wrong on every single one of them! In fact I bought an M1 iMac last year from Costco and the date on that one was December of 2021! From what I was told the warranty clock is initiated when merchandise ships from Apple's warehouses to retailers. (They were all bought from Costco or B&H) . I had to contact Apple Support and get them to "reset" the warranty to correspond to my purchase date on every single one I bought. All they wanted was a copy of my recept for proof of purchase date to do so.

I think it's awesome that Walmart is officially selling Apple products. Lately I've been preferring them over Amazon.
I agree! Walmert is getting way better. Amazon is getting VERY sketchy with their pricing policies on their merchandise with their "high-low" pricing algorithms and price tracking of competiton. IMHO, They try to get the HIGHEST price they can from you...many times they tend to be higher than competitors and push a lot of no name Chinese products they bought for pennies and sell for dollars. Walmarts merchandising is more consistent. they have transparent pricing policies and decent customer service. And you can make returns at any Walmart store. I've been buying a lot of stuff lin the last year or so from Walmart online and very satisfied.

i'm not an apple person. daughter is heading to college in the fall and asked for a MacBook pro. I don't think she knows much about MacBooks.

not sure this will suffice for 4 years of college and maybe law school. leaning towards this best buy MacBook Pro 13.3" Laptop - Apple M2 chip - 24GB Memory - 1TB SSD for $1399. any apple experts with thoughts?

That's a great buy on a well equipped M2 MacBook Pro! Buy it for your daughter, there are SO MANY more features and advantages, too numerous to mention it has over a base M1Macbook Air. And It should most definitely last her through law school and even beyond!

The return of Magsafe is definitely worth getting a newer model; it's sad that they ever removed it in the first place. My sister used her 2017 MBP at a different desk just one time and accidentally tripped over the cord, sending the laptop to the floor. She's careful with her things and definitely not a klutz. The MBP somehow survived with only a dent.
I prefer USB C. Now if they make USB C MagSafe that'd be really cool

The M3 variant a big upgrade for photoshop and DaVinci Resolve?

I'm about to go to Best Buy soon, not sure to get this or the MacBook Air M3.

I do a lot of track videos and Insta360 footage. 😩
