I really wish BB would sell the 16GB variants. 8GB is ok for most use cases, but anyone working with RAW photos will quickly wish they had more memory.

Had this since earlier this year. Got it for $899 from BH...
Very capable laptop for the price.
Crisp display.
Quick boot-up.
It took a few weeks for me to get used to the OS coming from Windows but after this adjustment period, this was a none issue.

For a regular joe like myself who doesn't do heavy gaming, rendering, photos, etc., this M1 based MBA will be fine for years to come.

I just got sick of going through cheaper Windows based laptop every 3~4 years and now crossed over to the dark side, I meant Cupertino side.

Sounds like average Macs have much longer lifespan than Windows based machines.
Also bought this on the B&H deal earlier this year, so far it's been an amazing device. Agreed that these have a longer life-span than windows machines. I upgraded from a 2013 MBA that still ran just fine.

My only gripe on with the M1 powered macbook /macmini machines is the lack of HiDPI support for external monitors. When I hook my M1 Air up to my Dell U2502D QHD monitor, the images and text don't render well. This issue is well reported on and for some reason hasn't been addressed by Apple yet.

U have no idea how powerful the m1 chip is with 8gb ... I was thinking the same thing as you ... I went from a 32gb 2015 MacBook pro to m1 and I must tell u the difference is very little. I am a software engineer for profession btw and I run very heavy apps for my work on the m1 air and it eats it like a champ
What dev apps are you using? I'm considering this for the same.

All Macbooks have retina displays, and actually, the M1 Air and Pro both have the exact displays with one exception being the Pro goes up to 500 Nits and the Air 400 Nits.

Got my first son a MacBook Pro when he started college back in 2013. He still uses it now for work (4 years of school + 4 years at work). The longevity of the laptop makes it worth the price. Our second son wanted a Windows (Dell laptop) and it lasted 2 years at school. He's now already asking for a new laptop for back to school semester.
