$800 for a new Macbook air, probably won't last long. Seems the deal from last week for $100 off and next weeks student deal for $100 off are currently stacking.
Best Price for a macbook air, next best is $900 from the apple store with free airpods for education discount as well.

Well some people prefer Apple, but even then no need to spend extra. I got my son who is a senior this upcoming school year a used 2017 MBA for $300 and it works like a champ running Big Sur.

Very capable laptop for the price.

Quick boot-up.
It took a few weeks for me to get used to the OS coming from Windows but after this adjustment period, this was a none issue.
For a regular joe like myself who doesn't do heavy gaming, rendering, photos, etc., this M1 based MBA will be fine for years to come.
I just got sick of going through cheaper Windows based laptop every 3~4 years and now crossed over to the dark side, I meant Cupertino side.
Sounds like average Macs have much longer lifespan than Windows based machines.
My only gripe on with the M1 powered macbook /macmini machines is the lack of HiDPI support for external monitors. When I hook my M1 Air up to my Dell U2502D QHD monitor, the images and text don't render well. This issue is well reported on and for some reason hasn't been addressed by Apple yet.

~ and these all run simultaneously at times without any issues, M1 is very powerful chip !!! i highly recommend who wants to downgrade the form factor yet keep a very powerful laptop...
TBH i got a very good deal on a refurbished one from amazon ... ended up costing me 400 only .... i got GC for amazon from my workplace for upgrading my laptop ....
I didn't realize the new mac's were retinas so I assumed it was an older model.
