It depends, this new UNIFIED MEMORY concept with the super fast SSDs will get you through almost all daily activities. I have 3 google chrome logins with ~15 tabs open on each all the time. 3-4 Safari tabs and work with Notes / Numbers and convert my iPhone videos to MP4 all the time. The system never feels laggy at all. I really mean NEVER

because a handful of people spread rumours on shady websites that the screen "spontaneously cracks" .
There was a guy in the old thread who said he had 2 of them crack. But it was all made up I think , he mentioned apple was asking him to pay for shipping his laptop for service, I can guarantee that Apple will always cover shipping both ways in case you need service.

That's the way to sweeten it.
If you would be adding Applecare+ , do not buy at BestBuy instead call Apple support and ask for the Student Deal on Applecare+ , they are giving 20% off. ~$160+taxes for 3 year coverage.

I suggest you head over to reddit/mac. You just might change your tune after a while. Sure, the SSD degradation issue has been fixed. But you can't escape swap issues on any OS if the apps being used exceed memory. And 8GB is a joke for anything but basic computing.
Have you tried this thing personally? I would say go ahead and try one with open mind (Best Buy has a very good return policy). Ask around from people who you know use these laptops. if you go to Reddit/Forums , there is NOTHING in this world that people don't complain about.

I own an m1 pro 13" and it swaps a lot, not ideal, and slows down SSD. It's also not "super fast" it's just average gaming laptop speeds/mid-high end ultrabook and not super fast like gen 4 SSD's are with 11th gen laptops like Lenovo IdeaPad and such.

I disagree with you based on my exprience. 8gb on this m1 mac is fine and the "excessive" swap is no longer an issue as you conceded.

At this price this is a very good laptop.. have it since 6 months and have tons of tabs opened along with light Lightroom and photoshop usage..feels pretty snappy..actually a lot lot better than my 1700$ MacBook Pro from 3 years ago ..again this is general usage review..if you have specific needs this may not be the laptop for you..I heard not all apps are compatible with M1

8GB is fine for some use cases. Specifically if you're using mostly just Apple's built-in apps (Safari, Photos, etc), then this is fine. Once you go outside Apple's apps, you need to make sure you use M1-native apps. Rosetta 2 apps uses 3-4x more memory compared to native M1 apps, and it'll go into swap quickly, and you'll see balloons much more frequently.

Get rid of non-optimized apps and your problem will be solved.
Do you really think Lenovo Ideapad line is faster than this???
You won't find a complete package anywhere near this for under $1k
Consider the following when you compare
1. The screen aspect ratio and resolution
2. Solid Aluminum build with no keyboard flex at all
3. Even the Intel EVO branded laptops do not wake up from sleep as fast as this
4. The battery life with M1 optimized apps is OUT OF WINDOWS UNIVERSE
5. The trackpad is amazing.

Got an open box around $700 months ago. Use it everyday. Fast as can be. Photoshop works great. No screen cracking. In and out of my briefcase all day. I'm not too easy with it

New Air model with M2 and colors in the works...Hoping for September/Oct release
Can't say for certain but don't hope for an MBA refresh until 2022 at the least. We'll only get the 14"/16" Pros in my opinion and they will cost 3 times this for the base model

Its always disappointment, when the leaks are not true Frown Mini Led's, more ports, new colors, improved processor sound exciting, but not sure on the price and release date.

By the way, if you buy this computer and there are any known issues with the screen apple will replace it under applecare. Apple replaced my MacBook screen after 3 years of ownership under applecare. I did not pay for the repair so buy applecare on this purchase.
