It depends, this new UNIFIED MEMORY concept with the super fast SSDs will get you through almost all daily activities. I have 3 google chrome logins with ~15 tabs open on each all the time. 3-4 Safari tabs and work with Notes / Numbers and convert my iPhone videos to MP4 all the time. The system never feels laggy at all. I really mean NEVER

because a handful of people spread rumours on shady websites that the screen "spontaneously cracks" .
There was a guy in the old thread who said he had 2 of them crack. But it was all made up I think , he mentioned apple was asking him to pay for shipping his laptop for service, I can guarantee that Apple will always cover shipping both ways in case you need service.

That's the way to sweeten it.
If you would be adding Applecare+ , do not buy at BestBuy instead call Apple support and ask for the Student Deal on Applecare+ , they are giving 20% off. ~$160+taxes for 3 year coverage.

I tried my first Mac 2 years ago and gave up on it as I was very comfortable with windows.
This time I gave it a little time and watched snazzylabs YouTube tutorial on Mac, I think I love MacOS now ..
And I feel you may have tested Waters too soon when apps were not optimized for M1

Regarding your use case of using the MBA with a 2 monitor desktop setup, Mac Mini would be more suited for it.
Not just apps. I use a ton of windows hotkeys for my work. And the most important app for me are MS Office apps, and those apps on Mac OS are honestly watered down versions. Frown.
And I need something I can take along with me while traveling so I can work for 2-3 hours at a stretch so Mac Mini doesn't fit the bill.

I tried to get Apple support to give me a student discount for applecare+ they told me it could not be done. Have you tried it and succeeded?

You can easily get on live sales chat and they can link you to the discounted AppleCare. You don't even need proof of purchase.

You have to check a box under price (second pic in the deal)
If you don't see a box then either you're not signed up for student deals or you have used a recent student deal on the account already, use a different account or create a new one

I guess I was unluckily talking to someone who does not want to do anything to help the customer.

I was the Best Buy app that wouldn't let me click the extra $100 off. Only use the browser

i agree it's hard to believe.
But the real question is have you tried macOS with an open mind? It's different and will take time to adapt. But it's been built by people who are obsessive about user experience (a little too much)

Windows 10 is headed in the right direction but with the hardware advantage and the massive developer support in favor of Mac/Apple, I'm very happy that I switched.
Maybe, maybe not. I LOVED MBA honestly. I can easily say it was one of the better laptop I've tried. The built quality, screen, speaker, performance was all great. But MacOS wasn't just for me. People keep saying MacOS is built around user experience but what does Windows lack that MacOS offers? Also Apple trackpad gestures has a lot to offer..but half the time I was doing the same motion two or three times before it actually registered correctly...I mean that could've just been my wonky hands fault I suppose? Only thing I didn't like about my MBA other than the OS, was the weight.

I started to use Windows from Windows 3.1 era. I did not switch to Mac until after Windows 10. I don't want to go back to Windows other than using Office

8GB RAM is just too little. That just generates huge use of the soldered storage for swap files. But that's all Apple sells at big box stores for the masses: planned obsolesence and increased profits. For future-proofing, 16 GB. Storage is secondary, because you can always add external drives.
Bro try a Mac then talk.. was a PC fanboi for years, huge mistake. This laptop is great for retired parents and CEOs that want to pretend they do computers

I have one. Battery life is insane; 12+ hours of general office use easy. I've never run it down in a single day yet. The speed for general tasks is there.

There is plenty of M1 Mac reviews out there. At this point the strengths and weaknesses are well documented.
