Does this apply to both the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro?

Not Apple bashing, but it's probably best to stay away from the M1 Macbooks as some people reported screen cracking. I'm actually in the market for one, but hearing these Mac screens cracking from just sitting on a desk overnight is alarming.

Have not heard of this issue, has it been reported by any tech media yet or acknowledged by Apple?

This appears to be pretty rare.

I have one, and know plenty of people who do also; they are quite fantastic computers.

There's two class action lawsuits on this. See: https://9to5mac.com/2021/09/16/cl...en-cracks/

https://www.techradar.com/news/tw...llegations

Apparently, it might a design flaw due to the lack of clearance between the screen and the keyboard. If you have a camera cover/keyboard cover, it is recommended you take it off prior to closing the laptop, which is annoying and defeats the purpose of having one if you have to put it on/take it off every time.

Having said that, no one really know why it happens and all this is speculation.

EDIT: here's a more detailed article about what to avoid doing - https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to...s-3808047/

It looks like Best Buy has price-matched this on their website. Planning to pick another one up tomorrow.

Thanks!

Yes. And they are in stock with curbside pickup. If you are a Costco Member, it is $850 also, BUT APPLE CARE + is only $140 ($200 at Amazon and Best Buy). Using PayPal at Best Buy (the only of the three that accepts PayPal) with a Discover Card also gets you 5% Cashback thru the end of September.

Picked one of these up recently for wifey.

I am super impressed. These M1 machines (and in particular the MacBook Airs) are game changers.

At $850 there is nothing that can compete with it in the same "class" of devices. In fact I believe it to be in a class of its own.

It has a stunning screen, amazingly responsive touchpad, finger print reader, great feeling keyboard (I use ThinkPads), very light weight, cool to the touch, and completely silent. The entire machine is fan-less.

As a general computing device it's fantastic. So much so I'm extremely tempted to get one for myself.

Yea, the internet blows things WAY out of proportions as of course it becomes a vocal minority.

Only when Apple does redesigns is something a true issue (butterfly keyboard fiasco)

That was also blown way out of proportion. I read about it and decided to take my chances. I've spilled a whole box of cookies onto my keyboard and generally used it as a placemat for the past 3 years and haven't had any issues.
