Was it a paper sign saying the 15% off? It was right by where all their apple open box stuff is at? The Best Buy I went to just had all open box laptops in one cage.
Best Buy have an open box cage? I have never seen it, is it behind the tech/customer service counter?

It was by their usb/external hdd drives. Small cage that had a ton of windows and some mac laptops jammed in together.

I have a question regarding the New Jersey tax free holiday through Sept. 5th.
Can this MacBook be purchased online - either via Costco or BestBuy - from an individual in another state (not NJ) but shipped to a NJ address ... Costco/BestBuy ships it directly to a NJ address.
Would that purchase qualify for no tax needing to be paid since it's delivery destination is NJ?
Hi there, item is tax exempt based on its delivery address -- all authorized retailers, including online ("out of state") are required to follow the tax codes of that state . Please review this BTS thread which has details & links for various merchants -- Expand the OP (for Costco, you need to request a refund of the tax - link. Happy Shopping!

For people that praise MacBook to the extreme I have to chime in on real life test ok. I have M1 Air with 8 core GPU and 512GB SSD. I bought my sister the Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Gen 4 that's on sale for $813 last month with AMD 6800U, 16GB LPDDR6, 512GB PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD

I use the website that opens 100 webpages to do real life test because both of us always have lots of webpages open for shopping / researching / trip planning / work. The Air is running the test on Safari and ThinkBook on Firefox and both have adblocker enabled

The Air have no problem opening Safari tabs but stop loading them after about the first 30 and will only slowly loads the page once I click on the tab. I am pretty sure it is throttling as the battery drain quickened and the area top of the keyboard heats up

The ThinkBook just keeps going opening tabs and loading pages. I can see it is using page files but that doesn't slow it down.

I ended the test after 200 webpages because ThinkBook clearly won and was disappointed how my Air performed. All the talk of 8GB on M1 = 16GB on PC is just crap, same with "Mac storage way faster than anything on PC"

M1 and M2 are very impressive with battery life and optimized workload but it's not the miracle machine some people made them out to be. Want to match / beat PC with beefy hardware you'd need to buy Mac with similar hardware. And to clarify, I did buy the Pro from this deal

Honestly this is not Apple to Apple comparison. You are comparing Safari browser vs Firefox, browser implementation might also play huge role here.

Understood about the shipping address determining any tax fees.
My concern is that Costco appears to be a merchant that does not follow this protocol online, at the checkout phase. From what I understand from customer reports, they apparently charge tax for eligible tax-free items delivered to NJ regardless of NJ's tax free holiday. Customers are then required to contact them after the purchase and request a tax refund.

From what I read regarding NJ's policies, if a merchant does charge tax and doesn't reimburse the customer, the NJ resident can make a claim on their annual NJ income tax return and the state will refund the sales tax paid ... insofar as the tax holiday is intended to benefit NJ residents.

But, if Costco for some reason does not refund the tax - to an out of state resident who designates a NJ address for the Macbook delivery - then they'd be out of luck getting reimbursed for the sales taxes paid (approx. $106).

Has anyone taken this route with Costco and received their tax refund without any snafus?

Passmark 33% higher with the AMD chip.
Active cooling & noise.
Double the RAM.

Yeah, at an activity where you deliberately stress RAM, it will not perform as well. A 2 year old fanless chip with 1/2 the RAM lost to a brand new chip literally released a month ago with double the RAM.

What's the battery life in normal use, for both?

What's the weight for each?

What's the fan noise like for each?

Gotcha! Thanks for explaining your situation. You should be good with Costco - but you can always contact them.

Costco.com doesn't offer sales tax exemption at the time of sale - I think this is why requests are manually processed for individual purchases Source: "How do I purchase for tax exempt or resale on Costco.com?" - link [costco.com].

Here is the thing, the ThinkBook idles the fan at no load so if you aren't tasking the laptops, both have no noise. The only difference is Air's better battery life

Price wise, both are the same at $800 something but ThinkBook comes with 16GB / 512GB. Both are fully aluminum with ThinkBook smaller and lighter.

Now if you loads the laptops, ThinkBook will be noisy with the fan but actually perform. Air will throttle and kinda gives up but you'd still have battery life

It just shows the Air aren't the miracle machine some people made them out to be. You get it for very light workload and excellent battery life.

You're arguing price/performance to a crowd that doesn't care about price/performance. People don't buy Apple devices because of a good price/performance ratio lol.

If you want a touchscreen then get an iPad pro you neanderthal

It's ergonomically bad to use clamshell laptops as touchscreens; if anything there's plenty of apps to use phones as a touch input and not smudge the glossy screen
You gotta have your cooler and powerful chipset in it you neanderthal. ipad pro is not capable of what this does. I don't need to carry around this and iPad separately. Not to mention giving all this horrendous profits to Apple by buying these two devices separately at these ridiculous prices.
