This isn't an "ARM based Macbook" problem. Something is going wrong. You might have other tasks running in the background consuming CPU, you might have a bandwidth issue, you might have something else going on.
Install brew (https://brew.sh/), run stats (brew install stats at the terminal), show your stats at all times, and try to build correlations between what's going on and how busy your system is.

No app should be able to crash a modern OS. If it can there is a fundamental problem that must be addressed by app and OS vendor.
