You do you bro. No need to come in the thread and explain yourself. Nobody buys a mac for gaming.

Productivity is very subjective. Old school .exes, you're better off with Windows, but if you're not living in the 90s, most things run in a browser these days.
Costco has it for the same price now until 8/30

Lol dude you have to pay taxes no matter what store you buy this from. What else do you think funds infrastructure projects in your city etc?

Also anyone here use this macbook pro strictly as a windows machine or nobody here does that? If you make it a windows machine

Will the performance be slower than compared to a mac? Also would you need to pay for windows? I heard it is windows parrallel so it isn't windows 10 ior 11?

Do some people use it as a macbook and sometimes as windows? Could you sometimes log in via mac and other times windows?

If you install windows parallel, does that mean this computer will act exactly as a windows machine and you can download any program that is windows compatible?

How is the battery if you use it as windows compared to mac? Is it a lot worst?
You can not use M1/M2 mac as windows machine anymore, you can only use an intel based Mac for that.

Ended up getting https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...h.html/865 for $100 more using edu account.

Non-edu pricing is $2249.
Edu pricing is $1699.

10 core and 1TB vs. 8 core and 512GB for $100 more is worth in my opinion.

If you're edu why not wait for the M2 then, newer chip and possibly other upgrades for only 150 above the bh price?

Good find. Thank you.
For others, it might require shipping charges though (anywhere between $12.33 and $29.34).

This is a good discussion on it, but a ton of posts so might be hard to comb through: https://forums.macrumors.com/thre...r.2211747/

Basically the issue was that when you had an external monitor attached, and didn't close the lid, the GPU would use a minimum of 18W (it should idle lower than 10W). This would cause the fans to be excessively loud constantly. It's been suspected to be a driver issue, and they partially fixed it in Monterey. If you have your external monitor at 60Hz refresh rate it shouldn't happen. It still happens when you have the refresh rate higher or lower than 60Hz. Using an eGPU is a workaround for the problem.

I can't remember whether Windows (Boot Camp) has the same problem.

Gotcha. So the issue "I'm guessing that is why people are selling those models cheap. That and the mostly useless Touch Bar making the machine less desirable." is that.

[Please note this is an opinion] I don't think that's why people are selling 16" MBP2019s for cheap. I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that Intel is last-gen, the ARM chips are cheap and a LOT faster, etc. I'd have a hard time investing in Intel Macs now that the ARM bits are here and cheap.

I think you are missing a very big factor of comparison which is build quality. Comparing those gigabyte computers to the macbook pro is like comparing a Subaru STI to a Porsche 911....sure the STI has a crap ton of raw power but the build quality and end product are in no way comparable. Have you ever typed on one of those gigabyte keyboards? It's like typing on a trampoline. The whole chassis is flexy and creaky. It's a cheap piece of plastic with powerful hardware bolted inside, where the macbook is a cohesively executed gorgeous and powerful metal machine.

Those are just 2 cheaper examples. Lenovo legion 5 series are built solid.. who cares about gorgeous, as long as it is good looking enough, has more power and gives you more for your money to get the same work done faster.. that is a win. For those who want to pay Tim Cook extra for eye candy.. more power to them. You also can't upgrade the ram or ssd.. you also have to put up with glossy screen glare rather than matte screen.. a 1599 legion 5i pro with 3070ti competes with the much more expensive $3000 max version of macbook, and even then it loses in single core and multicore... then try rendering in Blender and watch the Mac get left in the dust (tho some may enjoy looking at a spinning beach ball).. we haven't even mentioned gaming.. yeah.. no contest..

Macbook strengths? Battery life, noise and heat.. but no doubt about which gives you more bang for your buck.

Fast forward 3 years later.. the 3070 in the laptop not fast enough for you anymore? Egpu through thunderbolt 4 will give you more gpu power.. oh,acbpok has a tb4 port? Too bad it doesn't support egpu!

$1599, outperforms $3k macbook, yeah.....

Face it unless you are a video editor, or music creator who absolutely needs a silent laptop, or really will be away from a power outlet for 10 hpurs straight, more than 5 days a year, then you are paying a premium for less

The last gen of intel macs ran hot, had bad jony Ives butterfly keyboards that would fail, and lacked ports.. m1 and m2 are much better practical machines.

Yeah, fair enough, I don't know the reason for the trends, just guessing based on what I know about those models. I'm sure the fact that they are Intel is the major factor, but having the GPU power draw flaw makes it even worse but may not be that big of a factor since most people don't know about that.

I just picked up this same deal now that their online ordering has returned since they shut it down for the holiday. Definitely seems like a no brainer, if you were considering the original deal and qualify for EDU.

I did end up paying ~$10 for shipping and had to pay sales tax as well. Even if I managed to price match the OG deal to a no tax retailer it still comes out to only $200 more or so for additional cores and a larger storage capacity.
